DH and I are stopping by North Shore Animal League next week to adopt a puppy. I'm just curious if anyone has done this before with NSAL and what the process is like?

Re: NWR: Has anyone adopted a dog from NSAL?
I adopted one of my dogs there and had a fabulous experience. He is a WONDERFUL dog! They do ask for references, and my advice would to be have them pre planned and let them know to expect the call. When we gave our references, we gave a friend as one, and he was not home, so we had to wait until they were able to connect with him. In the end I think it is great that they do that, but to save yourself some time, definitely prepare ahead. They have a set fee which includes vaccinations, and also spay/neutering, so you really cant go wrong. Good luck!!!

when i knew that they were gonna call my references i ran outside and called them all first lol.. just to warn them they were gonna get a call and to make sure they knew to say the right things! even though i would've been able to get the dog right away if they came to the house to see themselves.. i didn't want one of my idiot friends fuckiing it up for me lol

My dog MIssy is from NSAL. I don't remember them calling up references, but I could def. be wrong. I do remember waiting foreverrrrr for them to get the paperwork done and I believe it was around a $100 'donation'. That was almost 7 years ago, not sure what it's like now. Oh and you have to be careful b/c alot of times they dont know much about the dogs they have b/c we were told our dog would be no more then 25lbs (kind of on the side of a bigger lap dog they said) and my dog is 75lbs and is about waist height lolol
This is true...they don't always know what there talking about but then again they can't really tell you anywhere what the dog is going to grow up to be. You can look at there website and they have a lot of there animals listed on there and you can take there # and ask them to see that dog.

yeah one of the dogs I have now are from there. they take all your info, then call references etc. then you give a donation. then you get to take the dog. that is if your references are all good.
