NWR- Health Insurance

NWR- Health Insurance

I just have to rant a little.

So I went to the driving range and apparently I sprained my back...hitting a little ball with a big stick is harder than it seems. So I went to the orthopedist who prescribes Celebrax as an anti-inflammatory, went to the pharmacist and he tells me he can't dispense it because I needed prior insurance approval. Was I to know that the doctor was going to prescribe that prior to being examined???? So now I have to wait 2 to 5 days while they contact the insurance company to get the medicine I need and lucky me get to be in pain for those days.

Sorry just had to get that off my chest.

Thats strange, I never heard of that before?
What insurance do you have?

It might be because there is no generic they have to approve it. If your pain is really bad you can call your doctor and ask if there is something else they can prescribe.

That's crazy! With our insurance if there is no generic, I just pay a higher co-pay, what a pain in the arse!

I'll repost what I said on BHB:

You need to call your doctor immediately. I believe he has prescribed a medication for you that is not on your insurance company's formulary. Tell him that your pharmacist told you that it requires insurance approval, which will take days. Ask him to check your insurance company's formulary and prescribe an approved drug for you to take in the meantime.

Good luck!

Also, likely, the doc didn't indicate on the script that you can get a generic version - and most ins. co's require generics without approval. Just call your doc and have him phone in a script that will go through.

Well I did some research regarding this drug and apparently it can cause heart problems and strokes so maybe it is a good idea that I haven't received it yet. Plus it is not good for people that have had ulcers and stomach problems which I have had so now I am lucky enough that I have to call the doctor and see what else is available. If not I'll just keep going to the chiropractor for treatments.

Thank you girls for letting me vent.
