I'm getting observed by my principal next Tuesday. I need this lesson to be excellent! I get overly nervous when I'm observed. I'm doing cause and effect with 3 5th grade resource room students and I need to put a fun twist on it for the closure or intro. Any ideas? TIA

Re: NWR . help from 4th, 5th 6th grade teachers
I would incorporate sports somehow. Maybe football or baseball. Maybe something about team payrolls and winning or losing. Just a thought. Maybe find some articles about the payrols of teams and use the sports page with wins and losses. Definitely incorporate making predictions somehow. Sorry, now I am rambling....Good luck!!!

What are you doing for the meat of the lesson? I would be sure to use some kind of graphic organizer to make it very visual for them. I use Thinking Maps - there is one for cause and effect.

Also the if....then.... sentence structure. Perhaps a read aloud that really demonstrates cause and effect - The Lorax? Tell us more about the lesson! (I'd obviously rather plan yours than mine!) Good luck!

Great suggestion to use The Lorax...Love that book (and so do the kids...I teach 4th)...I was also going to say that you could have the students make sentence strips with a cause and effect in each one (or you make them up ahead of time) and then have the students match the cause with the effect...Hope this helps!

Oh yeah - I love that and so do the kids - I call it Tea Party to the kids (and cocktail party in my head). They like to get up and walk around. I teach 4th too!

Thank you all so much. I love the Loraz but I think it's a bit too much for my resource room. This group loves animals so I'm going to use If you give a pig a pancake. I love the idea of them matching the cause/effect sentence strips. Thanks!!!!
