NWR-HELP! Put FH's Verizon RAZR through laundry!

Help Guys! I thought I was being an excellent FW this morning by doing a load of laundry - until I realized I washed FH's brand new RAZR phone along with the darks! I not only washed it but I also dried it! We don't have ins. on it and even if we did, I don't think ins. covers water damage.....can anyone help me or do I need to suck it up and buy him a new one????

I would suggest taking the back off and the battery out and using a blow dryer to dry it out (that's what they do if you drop your phone in water and get a refurbished one, they dry yours out with a blow dryer and then refurbish it to someone else).

MY FH dropped his, and he did not have insurance, he had to replace it.. but it was with Cingular service. When we first purchased the phone they said we had a one year Motorola coverage... turns out that it dosen't cover accidents....

Well... I work for Sprint and if there is no insurance on the phone... and he just got it, chances are you may have to just buy a new one. With us, insurance does cover water damage, so you may want to check out the coverage with Verizon. But, you never know what they will do for you if you go in and ask! Good luck!

if it doesn't work after drying out, you'll have to buy a new one since you don't have insurance.....FBIL dropped his in water and verizon replaced it (he has insurance).

Also, after blow drying, wait a day, sometimes it takes a day to start working again.

Even if you had insurance on the phone, you'd still have to pay a $50 deductible to get it replaced most likely.

If you do end up having to replace the phone, I'd call them as opposed to going into the store. Sometimes you can get better deals over the phone since they are not working on sales commissions (FH found this out through Verizon when he had to replace his phone).

if you have to buy a new one, you might be better off cancelling with your current company and paying the cancellation fee and then getting a deal through another company. Or - at least if you threaten to do that with your current company, they might cut you a break on buying a new phone. Or you can offer to extend your contract if they give you a deal on a new Razor (I have a Razor... hate it, by the way. Worst phone I ever had).

I did the exact same thing last summer when FH left his phone in his jeans (which he never does so I refuse to take full blame). Brought it to Cingular and they couldn't do anything. Had to buy him a new one.

Be careful if you use a blow dryer, make sure it is on COOL otherwise the heat might be to much. I dropped my pager (years ago) in water and someone told me to put it in white rice for a few days. It ***** the moisture out. I know it sounds crazy but it worked

that's what FBIL says...FH and I are now glad that we coudln't trade our phones in a few months ago when they were buy one get one free...cause he would've gotten one. injuly we are (3 months before the contract expires, you can re-negotiate with them and get your 'free/discoutned' phone....but you can't cancel... ) cause FH's phone has had it...my looks almost perfect, but his has serious issues....the antenna actually falls out!

VZ customer service is actually pretty good! I called first and they said because I am eligible for a 'new every 2' - I can even get a new RAZR for free!! I'm so relieved. I'm going to extend my contract, activate the new phone in my account, wait 24 hours and transfer it to FH's phone #, then re-activate my own phone to my #. I'm sure you girls don't need to hear this, but I thought you might like to see how it's working out! I'm going to keep my current phone for as long as I can - and insure both of them! FYI - water damage IS covered by VZ insurance!

That's funny, I just got off the phone with my mom and she did the same thing! She didn't have a RAZR, though. Verizon told her to see if she could dry it out and if it worked again. She waited a couple of days, but it still didn't work, so she had to go and purchase a new phone. They did tell her if the other phone starts working, she can return the new phone (within 15 days).

yeah, that phone is garbage. i literally submerged my razor in water on Sunday. Oops. It was ruined. But since I had it for less than two weeks, I called and put insurance on it. Then I called back two days later and said the phone was ruined. I'm so sneaky. BUT, it will cover water damage.
