I was going to get my hair highlighted today, but than after thinking about it, I really didn't want to before the wedding, b/c I don't want to deal with the maintenance of it since I have no money until the wedding .... Does anybody use any temporary highlights that you can do at home or something like that?? I have dark brown hair, basically black, so I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, but any help is appreciated!!

I've never tried at-home highlights, but I would look into your local salons...I know the Cactus by me has a special on one weekday where their highlights cost less!

I have dome at home but I have dark blond hair. I don't know if I would suggest it on darker hair because it could cause you to turn out orange!

i am a hair stylist and i am sorry to say there is no such thing as temporary highlights.. once you lighten they are there...... you can do temporary low lights by using a semi to deepen strands..but the only thing that lightens in permanent.
please do not try to do at home highlights.. ESPECIALLY if your hair isnt light already... THEY WILL turn orangy.
good luck xo jenn

They may not turn orange but just be very careful and read the box.

Re: NWR: highlights
You will most likely end up spending triple to correct what discoloration may come from an at home trial. The only thing to do is go to a salon. Do a partial, or t-section instead which will cost much less. Probably somewhere between 50 and 100 instead of the whole head. Then if you really love it you can do the whole head just before the wedding. I would NOT do it yourself. I agree with others, it will turn orange. I highly recommend Celestial Hair Gallery in Smithtown. Vinny is the best colorist on the island

Re: NWR: highlights
if you don't work in the city, i know it can be a pain but maybe worth it for the price:
In Soho (I work there), there is an Aveda Institute. Students do your hair -- they are like a month away from certification -- and its $55 including a blowout. You have to make an appointment way in advance and it takes them awhile to finish your hair but its worth it! They took more care of my hair than any other salon where I paid a lot more $$$.
