NWR: Holiday Gift Giving

Is he a sports fan? My dad is a sports nut and I've gotten him tickets to games or sports plaques of a picture of a moment in a game or a team shot. If FH is into sports, or you are, maybe you guys can go together? HTH!!

I'm in the asme kind of situation as you!

I always try to notice what my dad needs or what could he could use to make his life easier.

Two years ago I bought him a cell phone holder that clipped onto his belt or could hang on a shoulder on a strap.

Last year, he kept admiring a tool kit I had that was like $20 but had all the basics you would ever need for home repair he had lost his years ago, and couldn't find all the different screwdrivers and wrenches he needs. It was perfect.

This year, I am considering a Keurig (sp?) machine or something similar. He loves coffee in the morning but always complains about cleaning it, spills, etc.

However, if there are things he wants to do - would you be willing to do them with him? Does he have a good friend you could check with ahead of time?

Keurig machines are great!! Every coffee drinker I know loves that machine and the K-Cups also make great gifts.

he loves football...especially the jets...but he has a terrible back and can't sit out on the cold now for any final season games...he also would love to go to the probowl and my mom was gonna get him package tickets last year, but it's just so expensive...there are some things i would def be willing to do with him (wine tastings, foodie type stuff that he loves), but i'm also afraid that i might cause some friction with my mom by doing that...

i was actually thinking maybe i'd sign him up for like 3 months of that wine of the month club...but he shouldn't be drinking too much either....soooo hardddd

I go through this same exact thing every time I need to shop for my dad! He has EVERYTHING and whatever he doesn't have he goes and gets before you get the chance to get it for him. Then when you ask him what he wants he says nothing or a home depot gcard lol. This year I got him a digital frame though! My step mom told me her brother has one and my dad really liked it.

Does you dad like to read? Maybe a nook or kindle (if he doesn't already have one).

The first thing that came to mind seeing that he is a wine and foodie person is the NYC Wine and Restaurant Festival- I know it recently passed for 2011, but other tri-state venues host one as well- like Atlantic City for example, so maybe that one is later in the year or early next year. The tickets can be pricey depending on the event, but they are cool experiences. Restaurant Week should also be coming back around soon- so a nice dinner might be a good option. I know you can't necessarily give that as a gift persay, but maybe you can tell him to pick a restaurant or cuisine he wants to try and you can all make a night of it?

Wine of the month sounds good!! && it's only one bottle
Per month so it shouldn't be a lot for him to
Drink!

Re: NWR: Holiday Gift Giving

that food and wine festival sounds fun! i want to go!! hahaha- too bad it's over and the only other one local to us sort of is south beach florida because we have a place in north palm beach...but to buy tickets when i don't know if he could fly down then is hard...

then i found online today something pretty cool...a winemaking kit...they send you the mix, fermenting yeast, bottles, the fermenter...everything...and you can make up to 12 bottles!! all different wines, but the kit comes with shiraz/cabernet i think...of course then i told my mom to see what she thought and she was like 'your father is NEVER gonna do that, it's a waste of money...' blahhhh

My future father in law is hard so I bought him a motor trend magazine subscription. Last year, I got my boss a wood working magazine subscription and today he told me he renewed it and that he loved it so much. I am big into magazine subscriptions because most people wouldn't buy it for themselves and it is a gift that lasts all year. I got my mom a cooking one this year.

They really are a great time!! Definitely a pricey item, but if you enjoy food and wine, it's a great experience.

I was going to say the same thing! The magazine idea is my go to idea for some people!
