NWR: Holiday Vent! I'm the worst FW!

I'm a spoiled brat when it comes to holidays.

Every year my mom does Thanksgiving, it's her big holiday. This year my FMIL is doing it because my FBIL and his gf were going to be in town (they live 8 hrs away). Well the other day they decided they are moving from one apartment to another and are no longer able to come down that weekend. This leaves just my FH, his mom and me. My mom said we should all just go to LI and spend it with my family - I WISH!

FMIL refuses and wants to cook her own dinner with or without us and doesn't like to leaver her home on holidays - it's going to be a long lifetime dealing with her, let me tell you.

So my mom says we should go to FMIL's house and make her happy and not let her spend it alone. FMIL says she really doesn't care what we do.

Of course, I'll go to her house - FH doesn't care either way, trust me, he called his mom's dinner 'the loser Thanksgiving!' - beacause even his great uncle won't go.

I'm so bummed. He has no family. I'm from this big Italian LI family with a million cousins ranging in age 2-30. We play Scrabble and other games after dinner and have so much fun on Thanksgiving and now I'm stuck in a dark, cold (she doesn't use heat) house alone with FH and FMIL. Wah.

I feel so guilty even posting this. Please don't yell at me.

Uggh...how frustrating She should really suck it up and go to your family. It was nice to extend the invite for her. And you guys are getting married, so she should really be willing to mingle with the in-laws for a holiday!

Her being stubborn seems like no legitimate reason for you and FH to have to miss out on what sounds like a really fun get together with your family.

I am soooo sorry. 'The loser Thanksgiving.' If it makes you feel better, I come from a huge family in Florida, FH goes to his mom in Georgia (its HER holiday) and every other year when kids go to their dad's I order Chinese.

hm... i'm kind of a baby about the holidays too. like i can't really bear the thought of not seeing my parents at all on T-Day or christmas. If your fh doesn't care then why not go to your mom's?? Sorry, i'm playing devil's advocate - it just sounds like your FMIL is not that nice so that's no fun for you... mine is a doll and i would never want to leave her alone, but we are alternating - we're lucky though, my fam and her are like 10 mins apart.

maybe just get really drunk - drink lots of red wine! that's how i get through a bad day!

We always go to my mom's house, I feel like I should just deal and go for a few hours. I guess avoiding the traffic from NJ to LI will be kinda nice. Ha ha. I just want it all, ya know?

Yes, in the future, my mom will come out to NJ and have dinner at FMIL's. His mom would never play games - ha ha! I'll make the most of it and I'm excited to see my dad for cake and coffee afterwards.

well if your family goes over to FMIL's house you can make it better...bring games to play after and also make some of your own dishes to bring over. Don't let it bring you down, try to make the most of it, who knows maybe it will all turn out great
