NWR: home hunting & school districts

Original post by mlcvln129

Okay, so FH and I are planning on starting to seriously home hunt in December 2009/January 2010. We have some ideas about good school districts to move into. He REALLY wants Three Village, and I REALLY want Commack.
We want a school district in Suffolk with solid academics and an amazing music program (we're both music teachers, so that's really important to us). He really wants 0.35 acres, and we're looking in the $300-400K range.
We also have to be mindful of length of commute--which is why I'm pushing for Commack since I teach in south central Nassau County and he teaches in central Suffolk. I don't want to have to be in a position where when we do have kids, my 1st grader has to wait 45 minutes for Mommy or Daddy to pick him/her up from the nurse's office after throwing up in the cafeteria.
Help?

What about Elwood? I have no idea how much the houses there are but that SD is amazing, John Glenn HS.

ETA: I went to Whitman and they have a greattttttttt music program. Mixed district (its just a little of everything) and the homes and taxes are in your range.

Also Huntington HS is good too...

ok..there are a few houses in commack for high 300, very low 400s....they will need work though...and you will not be paying less than 8K in taxes ( i think the lowest i saw for a ranch was 8200)

these houses are usually 3 bedroom ranches...and unless you pay more that 10K you won't get more than .25 on the lot....

we just got an accepted bid in commack so FM me if you need any addition information...i know a lot about the area

kings park is more north but does have good school districts and you can DEF get a house in the low 300s

I would check out northport school district too....especially the numbered streets in e. northport you will find something more affordable and you will pay less taxes than commack

IMO i would start sooner than later....we looked for over a year and didn't find anything till now

good luck! and if you want any addition information please feel free to FM :)
