NWR: House hunting?

FH and I want to buy a new house this upcoming Spring. When should we start SERIOUSLY start looking- I am already on Zillow and MLSLI everyday

Should we wait till after our October wedding?

I would start looking in like Sept/Oct, some places take a while with all the paperwork. One of my co-workers placed on offer on a house in December and is just now is almost finalizing the paperwork.

If you don't find something by May, I would wait. The process is so stressful and you might explode if you have to deal with it right before your wedding!! My favorite site for househunting was ZipRealty. I signed up, gave my specifications and it sent me new listings every day. Also, if i bookmarked a house, it sent me any changes to the listing. I know lots of real estate search engines have this, but I felt like ziprealty was the most up to date. Redfin was another great one to cross-reference with.

Good Luck!

The first step would be to get pre-approved with a bank. They will tell you how much you qualify for $$ wise and they will give you a preapproval letter. This letter states that you have been preapproved for X amount, and you take this with you when you start going to visit houses. This way you are looking at houses that you can actually afford as opposed to just random houses.....when you find one that you like, you put an offer in and show them the letter. The sellers definitely want to make sure that you are preapproved with a bank before they even consider accepting your offer so the letter helps alot....I work in realestate so FM if you are interested in more info or have questions!
xoxoxo good luck!

Re: NWR: House hunting?

FH and I are actually in the process of buying a house. We originally went out looking at places thinking we were just looking to see what is out there and we were going to wait until after the wedding.

Well we found our dream home and ended up putting an offer on it. (After negotiation the offer was accepted). We are going to be closing in June or July so we have plenty of time before the wedding.

I agree that it may be a lot to have to be running around for the house closing and running around for the final appointments for the wedding at the same time. But if you are the kind of person that the craziness will not stress you out then I say go for it!
