NWR - House Hunting Question

NWR - House Hunting Question

So now that our wedding is over, me and my hus have been concentrating on finding a home. It's very exciting but also stressful!

We have seen quite and few and haven't felt any were right for us even when they have everything on our wish list. For those of you who own a house or have been hunting, did you get 'that feeling' when you walked into your house??? I keep thinking it will be like venue shopping, we knew right away when we walked into our venue - as far as houses I feel like we keep striking out.

Also, is there anything you wish you had now that you didnt think was important or just didnt think of when you were shopping for a house?

i didnt get 'that feeling' but at the time it was the right price with everything we wanted and the only CLEAN house. really, i dont know how people can show a house that smells or is dirty !!!

i wish i had gotten a house in a better area- like a neighborhood and a better school district-- it's true what they say! you can change the inside & outside but not the location!! (oh and a washer dryer on the main level LOL)

Ahhh yes, we realized after looking at 10 houses that were within our budget, that we weren't going to find a home that had all the upgrades and bells and whistles that we wanted.

We decided to start basing our opinions on the 'bones' of the house. Did we like the layout of the kitchen and living room? did we like the size of the bedrooms? Did we like the size of the yard? Those are things you necessarily can't change. Everything else, cosmetic wise, we learned not to care about, because we wanted to decorate and do upgrades the way we liked, not the way someone else did.

oh yeah, i learned after the fact that you're going to change EVERYTHING eventually anyway so any cosmetic stuff is of zero consequence. but also pay attention to if the seller keeps the house up, because that will affect you in the long run!!

We didnt get that magical feeling like I did when I saw Carlyle.

We knew what we wanted and when we saw a house that had 90% of what we wanted and had potential to be a GREAT investment we went with our heads. When hunting for a house you have to be less emotional about the decision but you have to think more with your head. When it comes down to it, it is just an investment. You can make ANY PLACE your home!! GOOD LUCK :):)

I understand completely!!! I feel like we looked at over 30 different homes and in some, we were barely able to walk through the whole house! We had made a few bids and lost out on a few homes that we thought were the one but after we found our house now, we KNEW that everything happened for a reason. As soon as we stepped foot in the house, I felt like crying from happiness.

Good luck with your search!!!!

NWR - House Hunting Question

Thanks everyone! It's just so annoying, I just want to find one already!!! Everything we see just isn't right for us. Although, we found one that 'might' work and are doing a reshow this weekend. But, I dont want to feel like I am settling either.

That is so funny and gross at the same time....Luckily, I have yet to step into a dirty house - all have been spotless - but our realtor warned us about this, I feel like I am overdue lol!

We are looking in Oceanside, Rockville Centre, and Merrick.

Awesome neighborhoods, I'm from Merrick and now live in Oceanside. :) One word of warning, if you are looking anywhere remotely by the water, flood insurance premiums are gonna go way up in the next few years. So make sure you budget for that.

I actually said absolutly not the first time we went to look at our place(co-op). Our price range was kinda low so most of what we saw was horrible. We were looking in babylon/lindenhurst area. After lots of talking we realised we werent able to buy the kind of house that we both wanted. We went back to the co-op FH loved and made an offer on the spot. 1 1/2 yrs later I am so in love.
turns out the house we wanted in lindenhurst was hit bad with both hurricanes and we would have not be able to afford to fix it.
Everything happens for a reason.

I have a wonderful realitor if you want her number
If you are thinking about a co-op inbox me the process is a long one.

I def believe everything happens for a reason! We are looking for houses, we've lived in the city in apartments for a few years now and are ready for some space and a yard lol

I know if the taxes don't get ya the flood insurance will lol. We are hoping to stay out of the flood zone but if find something we love within well just have to deal I guess. So annoying! My realtor told us to budget about 2-3k if we need flood, oy vey lolllllllll
