NWR- Houses with Streams in Backyards

FH and I looked at a house on the south shore today and it had a stream in the backyard. We are wondering if anyone has had any experience with this. I'm from Astoria, Queens so this obviously is a whole new world to me.

I don't personally live close to a stream, but I would be asking about flooding, or mosquitoes. Mary MOB

There's a little stream that runs at the end of my backyard, as my backyard backs up to the Bethpage State Park. We haven't had any problems - maybe just a little more buggy than most, but that's what citronella candles and bug zappers are for. As long as the water is running and not stagnate, you shouldn't have any problems.

be careful about flooding.....There is a section of houses near me that have a stream and if it gets bad with rain the water come up high....

Depending on how big the stream is, it's probably not a huuge problem. I used to live where there were some pretty large streams behind some of the houses and the whole block would get flooded during bad rainstorms.
