NWR: How do you keep your money??

Do you and FH put your money together or keep it separate? Do you split the bills and spending money? Or do you pay certain things and FH pays others? How do you save together?

FH and I put our money together. I'm a budgeting freak and I think it's easier to just pay our bills from one fund, save for a long term goal (currently the wedding, after a house) and then split the spending for each other to use however we feel fit. FH and I also make about the same amount. For me, I feel like it's the sensible solution. FH is fine with it but he just made a statement that, 'We are the only ones who do it that way' and I'm wondering if that's true or not.

So how do you and FH do it now? How will you do it when your married? and in your opinion, what is the traditional way to do it?

Re: NWR: How do you keep your money??

Right now we have separate checking accounts and we opened a joint savings account. We also have a joint checking account that we never use and will close.

I maintain my own checking account and a savings account that has my life's savings in it. eventually we will merge all, but don't feel that we need to do that yet since we are not living together officially.

NWR: How do you keep your money?? - Long Island Weddings

We each have our separate checking and savings accounts. We do put all of our purchases on our joint credit cards. We split the cost of groceries, dinners at restaurants, etc. but we pay for our own expenses (lunches, gas money, etc.). We have been living together for almost a year and a half now, and we will continue this system after we're married too, coz it works well for us.

We have separate accounts. We live together 2 years and we split the rent and he pays utilities and I pay groceries. FH usually pays when we go out but he makes a lot more money than me. I think we're getting to the point where it's time to get a joint account.

We each have our own checking and savings accounts, and we also have a shared checking/savings account. We are putting money in there that we use for wedding related things and then when we're ready, a house! Right now we're living rent free, so we don't have to worry about anything like that yet- I'm glad we have a joint account though. It helps!

NWR: How do you keep your money?? - Long Island Weddings

While we don't think of the money as 'mine' and 'his' we do pay for separate things. I'm the budgeted so most of my pay check goes away each week for our Wedding Savings, minus a small amount for food shopping and our weekly spending money. Since more than half my monthly income ends up going straight to the wedding, FH covers all other bills. He pays the rent from his income, as well as covers the car payment, insurance, cell phone, cable, credit cards etc. The amounts we're each 'paying out' is around the same, so its pretty even, the reason we split it this way is FH is not good at saving and paying a 'real bill' for him is easier than putting it away. Where as for me I will ALWAYS save as much as I can so it works out the best for us. I think we will likely keep it this way when we are married.

We have separate accounts. FH is better with managing his money than I am and he always get on me about my spending. He created the budget as far as how we pay the bills, rent, etc. I don't always stick to it and it tends to mess our money up. I actually just told him the other day that I will make a conscious effort. We'll see what happens! Lol

For us we have seperate checking and savings but we do hav a joint savings since we are buying a home. After we get in the groove of home ownership will more than likely split things differently its really all depends we are still working the details out.

We have separate accounts. He pays for certain things and I pay for certain things. Eventually I might put him on my account or get a joint account but for now we're ok with how things are.

I have my own checking account and savings account, FH has his own checking account and we have a joint savings account.

Our joint account gets a portion of each of our paychecks and is primarily going to be used for when we move out. Our personal accounts are what we've been using to pay for our wedding expenses but they're also for our own purchases.

NWR: How do you keep your money?? - Long Island Weddings

We have separate accounts, and a joint savings account for the wedding. We don't live together- so the only shared expense we have right now is the wedding. We have money from our engagement party, and what we both felt comfortable with taking from our personal savings to spend on the wedding and put it into our joint savings. Everything else we use our own money for.

Once we're married we'll have a joint savings/checking and keep our personal. We'll both put a certain % of our paychecks into our joint accounts (for saving for a house, living expenses) and spend the remaining on how we see fit (i'll spend it on nice jeans, he'll spend it on hockey games and concerts). We'll see how it works ;)

We each have our own checking/savings accounts and then a shared checking account for the wedding (after the wedding we'll add a savings account to it and probably use the shared accounts for everything). We split the rent and he pays all of the utilities and other bills because his salary basically triples mine. For food and other little things we don't keep track, but he'll usually pay if we do something together.

We have a joint checking and savings. It is all OUR money. We put all money in the account from both his pay and my pay and then he pays the bills! We have a household budget which works well for us but there are no individual accounts.
