I am a little hesitant to just dump my paychecks into my fh's account. Is there a fair way to do the bills and expenses and other things fairly? how did you guys handle that?

Re: NWR - How do you split up the $?
I wish I had a 'wise' answer. We just have our checks deposited (we have direct deposit s none of us sees it really) into a joint account and never really see what belongs to whom. We kinda share everything, so the bills get paid from the account and there's no time to say 'this much is mine', etc. But we have been doing this for over 3 years, it wasn't so cordial at first.

This is what we're doing...my check gets direct deposited into our savings account...which we are using to pay for all wedding related items and such, once the wedding is over the money thats is in there will be our permanent savings account...his check goes into a checking account that pays for expenses now...(cars, credit cards, cell phones, spending for the two of us, and weekend plans)...we allocated each other a certain amount for the week...

Rich and I do it kind of strange.
My paycheck I use to pay the rent, cable, phone bills, my car payment and any other bills that come along with my shopping! This way, i'm able to buy what I want and I don't have to explain to him my AMEX bill
His paycheck puts $ into the savings account and the wedding account. It also pays for any gadgets he buys and he pays for anytime we go out to dinner, vacations and anytime my hand is out asking for a donation!!
I don't have to save $, but I know that we have money saved. I don't have to explain everything that I buy, but I know i which bills i'm responsible for every month.
Right now it works for us, once we're married it will probably remain the same until we buy a house, move or have kids.

Re: NWR - How do you split up the $?
This a major problem for me. Once the wedding is over, my savings will be depleted. BUT I bought a condo that appreciated over 150,000 in two years so we will be using that as a downpayment on our house and keep FH savings as our savings account. Right now we live together and he just gives me about half of the mortgage, utilities, insurance and property taxes. I take it like a rent check. We fought over that forever. He just wanted to put that check in savings and have me continue to pay the bills. His argument was that after all its both our money but it didn't feel that way to me. I didn't want to have to ask him for money when I needed it.
I try talking to him about our future and how we will be doing the bills and fiances but he really doesn't get into this discussion with me. It drives me nuts! This is probably the biggest issue in our relationship for me and doesn't seem to bother him at all.

We still haven't joined our money toegther, but we have a joint savings with the money we got as wedding gifts. What we're planning on doing, when we get around to it, is to each have a percentage of our check put in to our savings and bills will be paid from there. We will also keep our personal accounts for our own spending.

We've talked about this already... what I thought was a good idea was to add up the reguular bills and split it up. Each person puts in enough to cover their share of the bills and the rest goes to savings or whatever. So in my eyes, we'll have a joint account and each of us will have our own account. We'll see how it works

it's different for everyone. For us, we each have an individual checking and savings, and then a joint checking. The joint is our main account and 95% of what we make goes inthere and towards rent and bills. We each keep our own stash for fun stuff (not too much of that lately though...)

We still have separate accounts (not intentionally), but we treat our collective funds as though they are shared. We might as well combine our accounts, but I'm at the mercy of online bill payment - and I just don't feel like moving my accounts - or his accounts (each in different banks). I'm actually able to save money if I hide it in his account, since 95% of the bills are paid from my account . I basically hide the money from ourselves!

FH and I have a joint savings account that we put money into every month. I have my own checking acct for car payments, Credit Cars, loans, phone, food shopping and FH has his own corporation so he has a business acct and his money goes directly into there to pay the rent, light, heat and cable bills, etc

We have both a joint account and individual accounts....
He pays the rent, I pay the other bills (cable/phone/etc).
As other expenses come up, we usually split them.

Re: NWR - How do you split up the $?
We have several different accounts, but they are all joint. We're the type of people who, if we had all of our money in one account, we'd spend it all.
So, we have a savings account (ING) that is for our honeymoon & house. I only work part time (I'm starting my LAST semester of law school on tuesday), so the little amount that I make a month goes in here, along with any gifts we get, and FH puts a certain percentage of his salary in here each paycheck.
We have 2 checking accounts that are linked at Commerce (America's Most Convenient Bank!!). One is for play (we only put a certain amount in there each month, and try not to go over it), and the other we use for expenses- that way we know we always have enough to pay the bills and the checks won't bounce. Anything left at the end of the month goes into ING.
So far it has been working well...

Re: NWR - How do you split up the $?
This is the one topic that we dont argue about Whats his is mine and whats mine is his
At first I had money saved and he didnt and I put money in his bank account when we moved into our house ...now I dont work and he just gives me an ATM card and the checkbook and I do the bills and shopping and I basically can spend whatever money I want to without having to tell him
