Next week I will be at my job for 2 years & in this office if you don't ask for a raise you won't get one.
So what is the 'proper' way to ask for a raise and a good list of answers to questions that might be asked by my boss?
TIA

Re: NWR: how to ask for a raise
Do it Grand Theft Auto style - walk in and slap some b*tches around
Totally JOKING
write a list of all the things you have done for the company and what you have accomplish. Then prepare a mini sale pitch for yourself and pull your boss to side and say ' I would like to speak with you when you have time'
Good luck!!!

I say do option 2 and then if that doesn't work go for option 1.

You let your boss know the things you've accomplished in the 2 years you've been there- explain how it's helped the business & also review what you'd like to accomplish & by doing so the company will succeed even more...if you're not comfy with that, its very common to payscale/salary.com yourself & bring that up...your boss can't use the 'economy is down' excuse anymore & if you're salary is below average-let them know! hope this helps!

Not sure what type of job you have, but at my job I always notce a trend... it seems like people go out and interview with other offices and they get offered more money. Then the employee has a meeting with their current boss and basically lets them know they found another similar job that is offering them more and they ask if they will counter-offer.
You would be surprised how many people get a raise and a pomotion this way! Especially if you are a good employee and they don't want to lose you.
Good luck!

This actually HAS worked for me in the past. It got me a $3 more an hr raise within minutes to keep me there. The problem is I know I make alot of money for the job that I do. I've had a lot of problems at this office & have tried to find another job but no one will pay me even close to what I'm making. I have a feeling they are going to pull the 'money is tight' thing. Yet the girl that does the same job as I do just hit her 2 yr mark in Dec and they gave her $4 more an hour to match what I make. And she told everyone all about it. Of course I am not going to tell her I'm asking for a raise but I feel like if they can give her $4 more an hour , can't I get atleast $1 more??

Re: NWR: how to ask for a raise
My boss was so easy going about it. I said i was wondering if it was possible for me to get a raise since i have new expenses (the wedding- she doesn't know im not paying ) but i figured i knew the girl i work with got a raise so she really couldn't say no. If she said no i was just going to look for another job

Don't forget to add in the rising gas prices!!!!! That's a BIG Factor unless they are just around the block.
If it's in the city, well, over the last 2 years, the MTA continuously raised their prices.

i would do as suggested and discuss your accomplishments at the office and your commitment to them and why you are deserving and hope for the best!!
