My mom has hashimotos disease (aka hypo-thyroidism). I got tested for my thyroid a few years ago and they said I was borderline hyper-thyroid, I have about 90% of the symptoms and it really $ucks alot. They call it graves disease....real nice freakin name

Re: NWR- hypothyroidism...anyone have it?
There are alot of things that can mirror a thyroid disorder...it can come out at any time in life though more common as we get older !!! they will do a blood test and should be able to tell from that...sometimes they will order a ultrasound of the thyroid.....I would reccomend the name brand synthroid and not the generic Levothyroxine.....more of our patients have side effects with the generic

Good luck to you. I have all the symptoms and It runs highly in my fam. Plus I have a history of having a hard time losing weight despite what I do and its only worse after having babies I also have nodules on my thyroid which is a BIG symptom of it BUT since it don't show up in my blood which it rarely does they just laugh at me. I am soo frustrated by it I can't even tell you. My grandma literally had like no thyroid she was on medicine her whole life for it and 2 aunts on both sides of my fam have it. There is this one guy I read about hes more of a holistic appraoch and he goes more by symptoms rather then just blood test but he doesn't accept insurance and you have to pay out of pocket and try to get reimbursed by your insurance company. I am really considering it though.

Did you have a biopsy done on the nodules? I had those too and it ended up being cancer. My dr didnt want to do anything about the thyroid cause people commented that my thryoid was large and I insisted he do more tests.

Thanks....I have had all my glands checked since i had surgery a few years ago ( i had a tumor on my paraoid gland...which was benign). I never checked if they were functioning correctly though....

Thanks it was super easy to treat and as of right now I dont have it anymore :) You could say I was at the right place at the right time (I work in a cancer hospital)
Did you feel tired after going on the synthroid? I find it so hard to lose weight any advice?

Re: NWR- hypothyroidism...anyone have it?
I have hypothyroidism as well and have been on Synthroid for about 3 years. I have found that once the doctor got me on the right dosage, I wasn't tired anymore. I never experienced the facial hair side effect, but I have heard of others who have. I still struggle a bit with the weight loss aspect, but have found it to be extremely helpful to eat healthy foods (small portions) every 3 hours and to exercise daily. This has boosted my metabolism and the weight is coming off a bit easier now. If anyone wants the name of an excellent endocrinologist, FM me for info.
