NWR.. I am so sad

Original post by Trishthedish

I took my 13 year old cat to the vet b/c she had been vomiting a lot and being a past cat owner, I thought it could be a sign of kidney failure.

Well, low and behold, I take Dazey to the vet and the vet tells me that she thinks she has a tumor in her stomach and she can only feel one kidney.

After doing 2 x-rays, the vet was confused b/c she could not see her other kidney b/c there is a large mass, either blocking it, or she said it could be her kidney (the one she couldn't feel before).

They did blood work and I will not get the results until Thursday or Friday. I am so sad. My animals are like my children. My last cat lived 17 years. I have been crying all night. I feel terrible.

The vet says she would not advise operating if it is a tumor b/c there is too much involved and with her age. She also said, if it is a tumor, they can try cortizone tablets b/c sometimes they act like chemo. Then she said we can give her painkillers too, if need be. Oh, she also said that if it is a tumor, it is wrapped around her digestive system which eventually means she will not be able to go to the bathroom which will cause toxins to be in her body. The vet really can't say anythign further b/c she is baffled right now whether it is a tumor or her kidney enlarging.

I feel so so so horrible. I don't want to see her suffer and I don't want to be selfish. BUT, all in all, aside from her vomiting, her personality and the way she is acting is normal. My mom did not think anything was wrong with her b/c she is acting so normal. I just knew it though. I can't explain that feeling, that I just knew something was wrong. Most people at my job do not have animals so totally can't relate.

I just need some support right now and I know you girls are good for that.

Thanks..

I am so sorry you are going through this. I know how hard it is watching a beloved pet in pain and not knowing what is wrong with them. I hope everything is ok with your kitty.

Re: NWR.. I am so sad

I have a little kitty, my cat will be 2 years old and I always hated cats till FH decieded he wanted one. The love me and my cat share is amazing. I am his favorite person and I can not imagine being in your shoes. Hang in there, if your cat is in pain then I would but him or her down. If you do not really see a diffrence then don't put him down, maybe he feels a little discomfort. Wait to see the result and if you need anything FM me. I am here for you

Re: NWR.. I am so sad

I completely understand what you're going through. We just recently in the last 6 months put down my 19 1/2 year old cat, Sneakers. He was my everything to me. I loved him so much and FH sometimes got jealous!! I'm a huge mush when it comes to kitty cats. I know its hard what you're going through to see Dazey sick and unhealthy. I'll pray for her to get better and if there's anything you need, even if its just to shoot the $hit, FM me.
Take care and give Dazey a kiss on her nose from me.

i am so sorry!!

i am glad that she has an owner that will take care of her like she is one of the family though, i think that is really important! sometimes people treat their pets like property and i always feel so bad for their animals!

for you and your cat!

i feel so bad, i just went through an emergency situation with me dog so i can totally relate. . . it is so heartbreaking!

a very similar thing happened to my cat when i was 18. it was my first year away at college and my mom told me she had to put my 15 year old cat to sleep cause of a tumor in her belly. i still get sad that i never got to say goodbye. she apparantly got very sick very fast, stopped eating and retreated to a deserted spot in the house, which is how we knew it was the right decision that it was her time to go. so def know what youre going through. all i can give is
