NWR... I am soo pissed

I just bought a house recently in which the previous owner rented the bottom floor. She just moved out this past weekend and we called cabelvision to set up two more boxes downstairs.
These jerks say that I have to set up two different accounts because there is a kitchen downstairs. I am soooo pissed ! I am not renting out the apartment so why do I need to pay extra money to have cable in my den !!!! I don't know what to do.... I can't tell you how angry I am.

Sorry, I just needed to vent...

I rented the donwstairs of a house and they gave us the cable boxes. We asked for 2 and the landlady went and got them.

just tell them you want 2 more boxes. Don't have them come and set it up. Should be okay.

They have notes in my account banning anyone from setting up boxes down there. They won't even set up an appointment for me .....

Does any one have verizon or direct tv. If so how do you like it?

How many bathrooms do you have? Techinically by NY state law if you have two kitchens its considered a seperate apt.. ***** I know. We have the same problem and we dont tell them. When the cable man comes we make him go all around the side of the house so that he comes in the back door and wont see it!

how do they know you have that other kitchen anyway?

If I were you I would call and threaten to cancel and see what they say, if they dont care enough about you to help you out cancel and go with cable or fios ... I had direct tv and they suc ked .. at least in my area, so I wouldnt recommend them

is it a legal 2 family? if not then I would ask to speak to a supervisor.....If its not a legal 2 fam then you should be able to do it without paying for 2 accts.

No it's not a legal two family. I spoke with a supervisor, told her I bought it as a one family house but it didn't matter...

you might have bought it as a one family but if the old landlady made it an illegal two house apt (with a kitchen and bathroom) then its techincally considered an illegal two family house. My parents were in this exact same position. They were sold it as a one family but they previous owner turned the basement into a rentable apt and my parents had to pay fines to the inspection people and legalize the house to a two family (or knock down the apt) which was the same amount, at least this way they rented it and made money. It was a big PITA!!!
