NWR - i don't know what to do ...

i was supposed to leave work at 6:15 sharp (which is when i am officially done) and go pick up FH to go to FMIL's retirement party.

BUT i have a project that a coworker of mine and i are working on that must be done tonight (or else we're screwed!). I'm done with my part of the project, but my co-worker is working incredibly slowly and there's no way in hell that he will be done with his part in the next hour.

So do I just not go to FMIL's thingy? Or should I go for an hour and then come back to work? Or should I go to the party and work from home tonight? Or something else?

Not finishing this project is not an option, unfortunately.

thanks

I've been in this situation before, reach out to FMIL and explain, she should understand! In my world, work has to come first a lot before birthdays, dinners, etc.

Go to the party and then work from home. Your wedding date is so close, family members will probably be looking for you! Plus, FMIL and FH might be pi$$ed off if you don't make it. Its not worth the argument!

Either go to the party and then work from home, or go to the party and come back to work. I would not skip it, you may end up really hurting her feelings, even though she will understand I'm sure she would miss having you there. Try to work it out if you can!

i just wish my coworker would move his hiney! he's working soooooooooooooooo slowly!

oh, btw, the retirement party is hosted by her school so it'll be mostly FMIL's coworkers, and FH's immediate family. FMIL wants to 'show us off' which is my idea of hell. but i do think i *should* go, if only for the free food
