NWR: I hate insurance companies!!

FH is having a bad flair up of crohn's and now his doctor is putting him on humira. He is a detective for NYPD and he has the worst prescription coverage ever!!! I spent the past two days now on the phone with the doctors office and the insurance company fighting with them back and forth to get them to pay for it and now they want us to pay $750 a month as a copay. I find this rediculous!!! Especially since we can't afford that while trying to save for a wedding! I know I saw in the past there were others on here that have crohns but I don't know if any of u are taking humira. Has anyone had this problem or have any advice how I can get them to pay for this? I spoke with the company that makes humira and they have a financal assistance program but apparently his insurance company doesn't partake in this program! Help!!!Before I have to rob a bank!!!! Lol
TIA!

Sorry to hear you are going through this. Can you appeal to the manufacturer of Humira? Alot of manufacturers now have financial assistance available to people who can't afford the medications. I am a social worker and we help patients in this situation all the time. Some manufacturers are nicer than others, and you may not necessarily have to go through your insurance to get the finanical assistance the manufacturer offers.

The lady I spoke with from humira was great and she offered to investigate it for me but they are willing to pay for it but just want us to pay 15% of the bill and that's a lot of money for someone who has insurance to pay! I was so frustrated that I told him today to leave work so we could just go to city hall anf get married legally so he can go on my insurance! He didn't find me funny but I just can't stand seeing him in so much pain everytime he eats or drinks anything! He was supposed to start the medication this monday but now to make it worse we found out that the pharmacy won't even have it arrive at his house until 14 days after it finally gets approved! I know it will all work out.. We are just so frustrated at this point...

So sorry you are going through this! But I thought NYPD had like the greatest insurance ever.....my friend's husband is a NYPD Sergeant, and she never pays for anything.

He used to have awesome prescription coverage when he was a police officer but once he became a detective, his coverage changed to the DEA prescription plan which is a completely different plan and apparently covers less... Which makes no sense to me because you would think that's still NYPD so it wouldn't be different but its different because its a different union.

Oh that's awful! Is there any other drug out there he can take that might be covered under his plan?

Im on humira. It takes forever to be approved. I say go get married and change ins. Mines $5 a month bc humira pays $45 of my copay. Check into enbrel too.

Thanks for the suggestion! I really appreciate it! Embrel was one of the drugs that I specifically told the doctor I would be againest him going on.. I know that side effects don't happen to everyone but my sister ended up in the ICU multiple times and no one could figure out what was wrong with her until my mom contacted embrel and they sent her research that was done on it and it turns out that it was the cause.. But on a good note I finally ironed out all the the problems and they will pay for the humira! Thank god because I really thought I was going to kill someone!! Lol

Bear in mind embrel, humira and remicade are all biotics and work similarly. Also humira takes like 12 weeks to really work. Im here for you if you ever have any questions.
