NWR: I just put my notice in....

I got a job offer, I've been looking, I came to this job six months ago, and I hate it....Just not the environment I want to be in....so I just put my notice in, not an easy thing to do, but I had to do at my last job that I was there for three years, and here only six months so it was a bit easier... The company I'm going to is a small new company, my parents are really not excited they are nervous, bc I have only been at two large large companies and feel that it is more stable there...but I dont know, I don't think that way...what do you guys think????
On a lighter note.....I'm going to see my dress tonight!!!!

Congrats & Good Luck!

Its a very exciting time for you and I think you should focus on that! No reason to stay at a plce you do not like. You should like what you do.

Congrats on the new job!

It is sooo important to be happy at your job.

My personal experience is that small companies are VERY different than larger ones. I am not too happy at my current job, but am holding off til after the wedding to look. But, just know that there are changes from going to a smaller place. It really depends on the environment- but you do not have the luxuries that a larger company offers.

thanks girls.
I def know that by no means will I have all the luxuries of a large company, but in my experience, large companies are often cheaper than most....bc they have so many employees...I just figured that now is not the time for me to be unhappy at a job, when I have kids, and a mortgage its not going to be so easy for me to up and move out of a job....I don't know, I'm def frightened, and its not as stable as a big company and thats what my main fear is

Re: NWR: I just put my notice in....

it really depends.. me personally, I will never go work for a small company again. I have been laid off twice in the past two and a half years from small companies- but larger than where I am now-- now I work at a company that has like 12 people. I feel like my job is secure- but, when you lose a piece of business- and there is less fat to trim, it may not be as secure. It also depends on your industry-

It is really a case by case basis though. Some small companies are great- and they are like family. Mine, they gave my pregnant MOH One week paid maternity leave- and they give her problems if she gets dr. orders to stay off her feet- so she works from home.

Other places I am sure would fall over themselves to make their employees happy and encourgae them to be loyal.

We didn't have a christmas party cause the boss man couldn't fit it into his schedule. I mean- that just doesn't happen at larger companies.

Sorry if i am being blunt- and I don't want to scare you-- this is just my experience-- oh, can you tell I don't really like my job??

I have worked at big companies and I have worked at small companies. I think they both have their benefits and they both have their downfalls. Really all that matters is the environment.

Good Luck with your new job and I hope you are happy.

Congratulations!!! When do you start the new position?

If you were unhappy with the old position then it's definitely for the best that you move on. Wondering the same thing myself right now and so your post about only being there for 6 months helped calm my worries! Good Luck!!!!

I thought six months would scare employers away, but it really hasn't..I have been on countless interviews...I just tell them the truth, its not what I really want to be doing, and they understand.....don't hesistate...I remember you moving to the new job, if you dont like it, don't stay, this isn't the time for us to be sitting at a job we dont' like..we're all still young and have our whole lives ahead of us....I start March 7th...woo hoo

randella- that s illegal what they are doing to your MOH!! Tell her to look into the Family Leave Medical Act (I think that is what it is called)

My two cents: Working for larger companies blows - the ones I have worked for could give two craps about their employees. I work in a small office now, and I love it - there is more of a feeling of family and people really care (the policies state one thing, but each persons life really informs the decisions that are made: for example, we are only allowed berevement pay and leave for spouses, and when FH's grandmother died recently - they gave me the leave and pay, even though he is not my husband yet.)

But every company is different, this is just my experience.

Good Luck with your new job!

They actually have to give her 12 weeks leave, not 12 weeks pay. They are within the law- just really sh*tty people. I personally looked into it and her DH is a lawyer- so they did their research!
