NWR: I need Furniture

Hi! I was wondering if anyone knew of a really good place to get inexpensive furniture. I need a kitchen table and 4 chairs, a sofa, and a recliner. I am moving into a new apartment with FH and we are on a tight budget, but need furniture.. I have looked on craigslist alot for the past 3 weeks, but not really found anything, and the things I do find get sold before I can buy them... Any idea/help?

Thanks!

IKEA!!!! Very cheap, you just have to assemble it yourself.

ETA: Link to IKEA

Yes--Ikea! You assemble yourself and it'll last a bit and you can upgrade as money comes in...

second vote for IKEA!

I was once in a similar situation to you.... I moved out on my own, and inhereted nothing except for my bedroom dressers.

I bought an entire apartment (couch, recliner, dining set / 4 chairs, 2 rugs, buffet table, coffee table, several lamps, queen bedframe, AND most kitchen stuff...... all for under $2500!!!! and 7 years later, all the stuff (except for the reclining chair) is still in use, and in very good condition.... despite being in constant use!

To boot, it's all quite stylish, if I do say so myself

Big Lots!!

I found stuff I liked better and it's better quality (IMO) than Ikea and was cheaper!

We got a really nice sofa for $399.00!

one word of advice for buying a whole apartment at once:

measure your place out carefully, and measure all the furniture you will buy, and make a map of your place with the furniture.... just to make sure it fits....

also, go to ikea and order all the stuff at once. Likely some items will be on backorder, but will be held for you once it arrives. show up with a uhaul the day before you move in, and pick it all up and drive it directly there and begin assembling! I did that, and it was a completely fluid transaction. My furniture was all assembled within 48 hours

I'd go with target and Bobs Discount Furniture. Be very careful with Ikea -- I also furnished my whole apartment with Ikea and MOST of the furniture ended up breaking within less than 6 months. The only thing still holding up is the bed and the kitchen table (which still needs to be re-tightened every few weeks). Our kitchen chairs broke 3 times from just sitting on them and the dresser and TV stand broke as well. The furniture is cheap for a reason, so unless you want to keep spending more money to constantly replace everything, you might be better off looking elsewhere to see what other deals you can find. JMO.

I got a really nice desk and TV stand at Target. They also have really nice kitchen table sets.
Also, sometimes JCPenny and Macys have good sales on furniture. And Raymour and Flanigan has some reasonable stuff.

IKEA is great, but usually short term.

My FH tends to use cardboard boxes for tables - maybe you could do that

Just to clarify, I was kidding...but he really does use boxes

Thats what we are using for the time being, while we are painting and building a wall and fixing a few things lol... but i want real furniture when we move in... (FH wouldn't care though - as long as he had a recliner and a tv!)
