So, FH's birthday is Sept 29th. I want to plan a surprise weekend getaway to Boston. Neither one of us has been there so I think that would be a fun idea. Anyone been there and have any good ideas for hotels/restaurants/things to do? TIA!!!

Re: NWR: FH birthday ideas
I went to college in Boston........spent PLENTY of time there.
The Doubletree Hotel on Soldiers Field Road is REALLY nice and reasonably priced....that's where FH and I always stayed when he would come visit me. Or of course there's also the one downtown.
As for things to do.......there are plenty.
There are a ton of restaurants and bars down by Fenway Park (where the Red Sox play). Also, in the financial district there's plenty of nightlife.
Copley Square can be a lot of fun, and you definitely need to go to Cheers (aka the Bull & Finch pub).
Definitely check out Fanueil Hall and Quincy Market too......a great little shopping/market/hangout area. Oh and if you want more 'manhattan feel' check out Newbury Street. Lots of little stores in brownstones.
Finally, there's the Boston Harbor for seafood restaurants, and of course the North End for Italian. If you go to the North End, you MUST go to Mike's Pastries. Awesome Awesome desserts........

No problem. FM me if you need anything else. OH I almost forgot...........
By Fanueil Hall, there's an Irish bar called 'The Black Rose.' It's a lot of fun over there and they often have live music. Also a great place to go if you feel like making some real live Irish friends

We went a few years ago and stayed in the Radisson on Stuart Street. Hotel was really nice and the location worked great for us. It was in the theater district if I remember correctly but within walking distance of the Public Gardens, Boston Commons and lots of other fun stuff. I love Boston! Great weekend getaway!

I love Libra's - they're one of the best signs. No offense to anyone.

Re: NWR: Ideas
I love Boston! We stayed at Club Quarters and could walk every where. A good restaurant is Union Oyster House. It has great seafood. Also, we took a duck tour when we were there and it was a great way to see a lot of the city.
Taking the train to Cambridge to see Harvard and then to the Kennedy museum was also a good time.
