um, do you mean like patent the idea?

first search to make sure it doesnt exist. google with different word combinations. and even search the uspto.gov (patent search).

if nothing exists, you should definitely try to prototype it to reduce it to practice (proof of concept).

can you make it yourself? or do you need help making it? if you need help where you need to hire people, you should probably do a contract where you pay for the service but you keep any intellectual property rights.


oh - also - if you are interested in patenting....dont tell others your idea!! once it becomes publicly disclosed (i.e., on a public LIW board), you limit the rights that you can pursue. like you can still get US coverage but you lose all foreign patent rights.
