NWR - I'm upset and overreacting. Help bring me back down to earth.
Since moving to Philadelphia last year, I haven't done much except work. I work in Finance and the folks in my department are a bit older with children and not the particularly the sociable type. I haven't been in many social situations (besides being with FH's coworkers at all his various work outings and events that I'm expected to show up at) so I really don't have my own set of friends here. FH just told me that he's joining a volleyball league, which will play on Saturdays until tax season, at which point his Saturdays will be spent WORKING. I'm completely upset and resentful that he'll be playing volleyball on his last free Saturdays for months. I know it's a great opportunity for him to socialize and meet new people (since we haven't really had a chance to do that since moving here). And I know he loves sports and I'm mad at myself for even being upset over this. I also know that it's a great opportunity for me to be WITHOUT FH and to branch out and finally get involved in some things of my own here in PA. But still, I'm upset and angry that he's taking these Saturdays away from us (obviously volleyball doesn't last all day, but if I know FH, the rest of his day will be shot when he gets home from playing any sport). Convince me that I'm being a selfish jerk and that being upset with FH over this is stupid and self centered of me.
Thanks for reading and sorry so long!

Awwww I can totally understand how you feel. I think it would be a great idea if you joined some kind of league to meet people as well and then you and FH can both have your own things to do at the same time.
Or if you don't join anything, it's always nice to have your own time, ya know? For shopping, mani / pedi's or even sleeping in on a Saturday. I am sure you can find something to do that you love- whether it's with people or alone. It's also great for your FH to go out there and do these things- meet people. Maybe these guys have wives / GF's that you could end up being friends with too. I think good things can come of this.
And girl, I work in finance too- I know the type of people you have roaming around your office and I can totally relate.

Try joining an activity of your own. My FH works almost every Sat. and I started to take a yoga class. At first I did it to help me destress but I ended up making friends in the process!

That would be my advice too. But I can understand how you feel.

I understand how you feel. We only get to see each other Saturdays and Sundays really, when I like to wake up and be lazy for like 4 hours and just lay in bed all day. So I had the same reaction you did when he brought up playing football again for this fall.
I don't think it's overreacting either. Saturday is an important day for couples to relax together and date night. There may be other volleyball leagues that meet during the week or maybe you could do volleyball with him. It also might not be so bad if he promises not to be shot for the rest of the day and at least try to go out and do something with you when he comes home.

i know how you feel, we moved to FL 2 yrs ago, and I didnt know anyone. He had a few friends down here, and he was and is able to go out to watch football, go golfing and all that. All the girls (the friends wives) down here all have 2+ kids, so I dont have all that much in common with them when they have infants to tend to 24/7. So, I totally agree with you, its very very hard when they have a life outside of you in another state, and you are just kinda left hanging. But I have come to enjoy some of my alone time, and do what I want to do (go to gym, shop, etc). I have made some friends, but its hard when everyone has kids. Its like the guys are always able to go out, and their wives stay home with the kids... and what do I do? They obviously cant take their kids out to have a few drinks????

I don't think you are overreacting. I know what its like to have to share FH with an activity for me its riding his motorcycle. It use to bring a lot of fighting for us. But I think you know in your heart that you aren't mad at him or this new activitity but more at the fact that you also want to be out being more social. I think its okay to feel that way you feel. But at the same time I would use this as a step toward finding you own niche in PA. I hope that helps. But you always have us to vent to.
