NWR: Inspiring Day at Cancer Survivor Day
I mentioned it briefly in last weeks 'weekend plans' post but I had the honor of attending Cancer Survivor Day this weekend at North Shore LIJ's Monter Cancer Center.
FH is a survivor - he reached his 5 year mark this year and felt it was appropriate to go. He is pretty quiet about it but with reaching 5 years he felt inspired to go.
The guest of honor was Scott Hamilton (the figure skater) and he was simply amazing! His story is so incredible and he is a true survivor.
We were in the presence of 3,000 other survivors - we had the pleasure of meeting some of them and hearing their stories and it was a really proud moment for me to be there with FH. I got to meet the woman who was on FH floor and forced him to get up every morning and walk even though all he wanted to do was sleep - I thanked her for that!!
Anyway - just wanted to share with you guys this amazing day! We had a lot of fun and I am looking forward to next year and seeing even more survivors.
