You can fly to Sicily from the Rome Airport. Or if you are already in Southern Italy you can take the Ferry (from Calabria).

You can now fly direct from NY to Palermo, Sicily on Eurofly (who woulda thunk it??). My parents did that last summer and it worked out great.

You have a few choices - u can fly into Milano to the Malpensa airport or into Rome at the Fiumicino airport. To get from either of the two to Palermo's Punta Raisi Airport takes approx. 1 1/2 hours. Or like someone said u can take EuroFly directly from NY to Palermo non-stop. HTH Are u planning an Italy trip for your honeymoon?

Speaking of Italy, when is the best time to go? My husband and I are looking into going to Italy this year and he would like to go around July-August. Is that a good time? Someone told me that everything kind of closes down in August. Is that true? Is July going to be blazing hot? Any input would be much appreciated. TIA!

August!!!!! If your going to Sicily - def go in August - thigs are NOT DEAD - its the only time of the year where there is action!!! In august, every town celbrates their saint - and there's a whole bunch of events going on ... my parents town is the week of the 21st (Aug) and they also have fer-augosto - which is everyone (young that is) goes to the beach, and makes a fire - and then a club opens up on the beach. Alot of clubs are cool to go to - but their not open every every night - so you can go from town to town to a diff club - or just go to bars at night (which are cafes to us) - and the drinks are pureee alcohol!!! I love italy in Aug! HTH!

Good luck - and feel free to FM me with any ?'s!
