I don't know what to do anymore!!!!!! I had poison ivy for weeks. It then got infected and I had to take antibiotics. Turns out, I was allergic to the antibiotic. I got sent home from work yesterday with a rash all over me. I went to the ER and they gave me prednisone and an antihistimine. Nothing is working. My entire body is itching at once. Please help me!!!!

I have never gotten it before. It wouldn't even be bad if I got it and then it went away. This new allergic reaction is killing me!

I have been using Aveeno oatmeal cream all over!
I think half the time it's anxiety related since my class stresses me out

is prednisone the steroid? i wenting hiking last fall and got this crazy nasty poison something (literally that's what the doc called it b/c it wasn't ivy) and the only thing that made it go away was steroids she finally prescribed me. the whole thing was torture and the oatmeal bath only seemed to make it worse.

Yes, it's the steroid. I know it takes time to work, but it's been so many weeks already. I am out of my mind. I wash all my sheets, towels and clothes every 2 days.

hmmm... prednisone is a steroid it will make you really jumpy and nervous. I hate that drug. I have reallly bad asthma and when I have to go on prednisone I get no sleep b/c I cannot settle down. Awful

Re: NWR: Itchiness
I am sooooo sorry this happened to you! I had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic a few months ago and I can remember the burning and itching.
Unfortunately, I really don't have any suggestions as to what may soothe you, but the good news is that now that you're off the antibiotic it'll get better everyday, I promise!! Oh, and drink lots of water to help flush it out even faster!

that's what i was going to ask. a lot of people are allergic to certain steroids. have you ever been on it before?
i would definately call your dr. or go back to the ER to see if they can help you.
in the mean time... allergy meds like benedryl might help. both oral and topical. Have you tried cortizone and/or calamine or benedryl lotion?

Nope I haven't been on it before. I think I'll go crazy from being allergic to one medicine to being allergic to another. I definitely will call my doctor tomorrow. Thanks.

Re: NWR: Itchiness
theres some oatmeal stuff at walgreens or even cvs, you put it in a bath. then relax. it's also good for sunburns.
I did that when I had a horrible sunburn it was so nice. I just remember reading that it was good for poison ivy too.

Re: NWR: Itchiness
You can get a steriod cream from your doc or from a dermatologist...they are stronger then any cream you can buy and work very quickly...locoid ( may have spelt it wrong) is a very very good one and most dermatologists have sample of it!!
