NWR: I've had it with my manager - vent

NWR: I've had it with my manager - vent

Where do I begin? My manager is one of the worst managers ever and doesn't belong in this position. I really can't figure out how she's been in this position for this long. She is not creative, blames everyone under her (fires them) just to save her a$$. There are a few of us who think we're next on the list because everytime we show her something that we did she thinks it's terrible. Meanwhile we never get any guidance on how to do things so when we take the initiative to do it ourselves, we get reamed out and are told it's all wrong. It's very frustrating and stressful. She tried to put me on the spot today in a meeting to make me look bad. It was all her fault to begin with but she always likes to dump this stuff on us. I just hope something works out soon, because there is no way I can stay here until I finish school. I don't start til next week! I'm just frustrated and ready to rip my hair out.

Me too!!!! Except my 'manager' can't fire people without reason...and by reason - i mean documented stuff - it takes a LOT to leave my company...

What makes it REALLY hard for me is that I had the BEST MANAGER EVER in my life until March - when he was promoted to run our office in China... What we were left with hurts my soul...

that just made me so sad!

I hope my employees don't feel like I'm hurting their soul.

Does SHE have a boss? Is there someone you can talk to that is high up than she is?

I'm so sorry to hear that your boss is giving you trouble!
not sure if this will help you- but 9 times out of 10 when someone is a bad boss or acts lilke that its because whoever is above them is tough on them or cant make a decision. a good manager will try and shield their staff from that- but honestly its just not always easy.

good news is that if your boss is that incompetant s/he will get found out fast and tossed- well in most cases.

hang in there and dont let your manager get to you

I swear - it's like NIGHT & DAY... I used to look forward to coming to work, hearing my manager laugh (he had a great laugh), hearing him talk even - he was from Ghana, had a wonderful accent. He made me feel soooo appreciated. I even broke down one day telling him that - that I had never been in a job where I felt like I was making such a difference & was as appreciated as he made me feel. Now he's gone & said if someone wasn't already in my position in China - he would've taken me. I would've gone - seriously...he made work that enjoyable!

I had spinal surgery 3 months after starting here and he came to my house to see how I was doing!!

She does have a boss, but it isn't worth it for me to do anything. Her boss knows she's very ineffective.

I think the overall problem is this company is stuck in its ways so change won't just happen easily. She's just overkill. There's been a lot of turn around in my division. Two people were let go from my division since I started a year ago.

That is an awesome boss. The first place I worked out of college was awesome. If only they were in NY.

The best thing you can do is make a list. Document EVERYTHING that happens that is NOT right. This way - some day - it may come in useful....you never know...and if you wind up moving on and finding a new job - maybe your company does what mine does - Exit Interviews & you can give them every incident you could think of then!

Absolutely and that's what I've been doing for the past 2 months. I'm saving all my emails too. In the mean time I'm keeping my options open.
