I was just reading the other Jamie Lynn thread/link and I saw an article about how 'supposedly' Lynne Spears commented on the hypocrisy of the national who basically stoned Jamie Lynn and her family for Jamie Lynn's teen pregnancy, but has embraced and commended Bristol Palin's teen pregnancy.
I was thinking about it... and it's true. Sarah Palin is being 'praised' by republicans for how she is handling her daughter's teen pregnancy but the same people condemned Lynne Spears as a horrible mother.
What are your thoughts?

i dont think getting pregnant has anything to do with your parents, you can have the best parents and still get pregnant, still have sex, it just happens - parents dont have control over every minute of their kids life, kids have sex and i dont think it means your a bad parent if your kid decides to have sex - as long as you educated your children there isnt much more you can do but trust them to make the right decisions and if they dont you have to be there for them........i think a good parent will support their child whether they decide to terminate or go through with the pregnancy - i think being a good parent means being their for your child no matter what

i dont know bc i saw some people also bash Palin. I agree with nicole that its not always the parents fault so they cant be blamed. Sometimes you have great parents with kids who do make mistakes and you can also have bad parents who end up having great kids.
Also its not just about this one incident when it comes to lynn spears, i think its more like its one thing after another with her family ya know. If this was the only situation and nothing else happened in the past with either daughter then i dont think people would be as judgemental.

yeah, i think she got it bad because of all the other stuff going on....but i dont think you can blame her for every single mistake her kids made....to me thats a part of life, and as a parent i think you have to give your kids some freedom to make their own decisions and you just pray that they do the right thing KWIM? we all dont know her relationships with her kids, so we cant say if she was good or bad.....im sure there are thing she wishes she did i better, i think she even said than in an interview, but would i say she is a horrible parent - i dont think she is....she tried, thats all you can do, there isnt a handbook and every kid is different, i dont think being a parent is easy, especially these days!

its very true, we dont know what she has done or hasn't done. SOmetimes no matter how hard you fight your kids will still make mistakes.

I personally think they should have maybe been more aware of their daughters where abouts. Both of them. Then again, it may have happened no matter what they did- its not like they could tie them up and keep them in their rooms forever. But I do think teen preganacys would go down if parents would be more aware.

ok you just reminded me why people judge lynn spears. Jamie moved in with her bf at the age of 16. So yes no matter how much you try your kids can still mess up and sneak around. But the decision to let your 16 year old move in with her bf i think is what made others criticize her more. Not long after is when she got pregnant

hmmm i dont know about that kids are REALLY sneaky - i was bad and rebelled so my parents always thought the worst but i had friends who were home on time, who never got in trouble and they were the ones getting it on like crazy and its not that their parents were clueless, they just didnt give their parents any reason to think that they were doing anything bad - so i dont think its that easy to detect....maybe it is, i dont know, im not a parent, but i would imagine that a lot of parents are clueless because they want to believe their kids are doing the right thing - especially when they are for the most part....does that make any sense??

Well...not for nothing, Sara Palin has 4 OTHER kids that are doing just fine- Excellent in fact and this is a minor blip. Lets not even get into her parenting skills with Brittany!!!!
I think that was part of the whole Jaime Lynn issue...it was like- Looks like the Spears family screwed up another one!

It's good to be supportive but not too much to the point that the girl comes out pregnant right away (Spears). I do and don't blame parents. I think in some case the environment you grow up in molds you to who you are (morals and belief) , and in some cases it wouldn't even matter. I think an open communication with ones children is important. Parents should talk to their kids about everything often, instead of assuming they know right from wrong. Sometimes parents fail at this and teenage pregnancy may be a result of this.

i agree.
IMHO: i think you can only 'blame' or 'praise' a parent for so much in either case. At a certain point it has to be seen that at 16 y.o. thinks and acts on their own. Both girls were too young to be having a kid - period. However but made a very strong and brave decision of keeping the child with the intentions of raising them. That's admirable for both young ladies in my opinion. Both moms have been as supportive as a mother should be expected to be. I think any bashing for either mom was out of line. We have all been 16 and we all know that our parents can't with watching us 24-7. Whether they are a working mom or stay at home mom; whether they have 1 kid or 5 kids. I think it comes down it people picking and choosing who to admonish based on the headline of the day. Its easy for right wing conservationists to ridicule Lynne Spears because she has a pop star daughter and is categorized as a 'hollywood type but the same people praise Sarah Palin because she Bristol and her boyfriend are going to be married.
