NWR job

Ok so I got an offer from the place that got in touch with me at V's wedding

But it isn't a design job- more of a construction manager position and the pay is lower than I was making in DC. I have an interview elsewhere tomorrow and one next week.....

What do I do???

That's awesome news that you got the offer!!!

I know there's tons of people that tell the people they will get back to them in a few days (while you evaluate your other options). That's totally normal, some people take over a week to sometimes make the decision. I would be excited about it when you discuss it w/ them and just let them know you are just figuring out a few details and are so appreciative of them offering it to you etc..etc., and will get back to them within x amount of days.

this is just me, but if i has been out of a job for 3 months + and DH was pulling all the weight himself, i would just take the job and still go on the other interviews in the meanwhile. if you happen to get accepted somewhere else after you start this new job, then i would tell the new boss that an offer came in in the field you were hoping to get into and that you had interviewed there before you started working there.
i see this happen all the time. not to be a deebiw downer, but you don't know that you will get either job in any upcoming interview and this is a sure thing. it may not be great but for now, until you find something you really love and pays more, this will pay the bills.

ugh that's tough

i would tell him that you need a couple of weeks and see what the response is - any job that is worthwhile will give you that kind of time

and you dont want to just jump onto something to leave it 3 weeks later when something better comes along sorry

Its awesome you got an offer...HOWEVER....you dont sound excited...so I wouldnt take it. Even if you took it just because youve been out of work for a few months, you will probably be unhappy taking a big pay cut and not pursuing the other interviews.



ETA: unless this offer lets you 'think about it' until at least Friday.

I would be (somewhat) honest with them...
tell them the pay is a little lower than you would like and so you need to figure out a few things before you can accept. Tell them you have some prior commitments these next two weeks and would like to give them an answer on xxx date.
this way they may see about offering you more money which may help if you end up taking the job and you can also have time to go on your other interviews and keep options open.

I would be honest about the pay. Did they not ask for salary requirements in the interview or prior to it? If so, they may be pulling a fast one on you.

I would not mention 'other opportunities' necessarily because then it makes it seem like it's not that important and in turn backfire. They should offer it in writing though.

Just got a call from the Bronx HS for Architecture and Engineering to interview tomorrow. I have another interview at a firm tomorrow too. And another interview next week.

Maybe things are just starting to shake my way?

i definitely wouldn't say that you had another job offer - he may start asking questions about it and you don't want to be caught in a lie. saying that you are weighing a few different options is the way to go with this I think.

I did the figures on the job from yesterday, which makes me realize that it will bring very little to my life. Since I am unemployed, my (and Dh's) student loans are on an unemployment deferral, where they aren't getting an out of control interest rate. If I take the low paying job, we then have to start paying them back....and I will literally be taking home about $6,000 in a year after I pay those. It just seems like a lot of work for not much.

I got another call this morning for another job interview, which we set up for next Tuesday. So I have one today at a firm, one tomorrow at a school, and then one next Tuesday and one next Thursday, both at larger companies. I think it will all work out!
