Sorry about posting here, but I could use the traffic. I think I'm in over my head! About two months ago I went from being an accounting intern to being a staff accountant at an architectural/engineering firm. I have two supervisors, my direct supervisior is the Financial Reporting Manager, and for the most part she's nice. My indirect supervisor is the controller of the firm and he's super nice. With the promotion came more responsibility, which I was ok with at first, but now I find that I can barely keep up with certain tasks. How do I inform my supervisor that I feel this way without sounding incompetent? She keeps giving me things to do, and telling me that they are priority and then asks why I haven't finished the tasks from before yet. The other day she told me that I need to manage my time better, when I really don't goof off during office hours. I do my work as efficently as I can. Do I go above her head and go to the controller with my delema? I'm so confused. I love this job and I love the people here. I don't want to get fired, but at the same time I can't keep up with the pace my supervisor has apparently set for me.
Sorry so long. Please help. TIA.

Re: NWR: Job related question.
Don't go over her head.
I used to work in the financial reporting area as well. Sometimes, they forget actually how much work they give you.
What I did when I was feeling overwhelmed was I set up a meeting with my boss to prioritize my to do list. Sometimes they don't realize how much you are actually doing and how much they have given you that's labelled priority. That way you don't seem overwhelmed to them and it lets them see how many things you have to do.

Excellent advice. I've done the same. It worked out great.
