NWR: Job Related--What would you do?

I have been miserable at my job for the past few months now. I had to take a $10,000 pay cut which is not fun considering FH and I just bought a house. I have been looking for a new job and finally was offered a job at a new company, but now I am second guessing whether I want to go or not. What would you do? I know this seems like a no brainer, but of course I want to make sure I am making the right decision.

Stay at your current job where you took a pay cut, there is no growth potential, but you are comfortable there, have many friends, and they are very lenient with vacation and sick time.

Move to a new job where you will be getting paid more, there is tons of growth potential, but it is not exactly in the field you want to work in right now but could change positions in the future. Right now I would just be getting my foot in the door.

take the new job if it offers you more of what you want.

Sounds like you are not happy currently. Could the new job be worse?

It's always scary to make a change. But, I believe change is very good. It makes you grow.

Good luck with your decision.

If it's just comfortablity that's keeping you at your current job, then I say RUN TO THE NEW JOB!! Not to sound like a downer, but.......Every job we've ever taken was 'The New Job' in the beginning. Your current job was once the New Job where you didn't know anyone & weren't bonded with anyone yet.

This new job sounds like it has so much more to offer!! Don't base your decision just on friendships made at the office. If you'll be getting more $$$ and more room to grow, then I think it'd be wiser to go for it than to kick yourself later on. Let's face it....NY is getting pretty expensive to live here (3.29/gallon for gas??? )

If it's a matter of just not being in the field you want to be in, or hating every moment you're working, then disregard everything else I just said. I'm only speaking out of frustration because I missed 2 amazing job opportunities in the past 2 years because I loved going to work with my 'friend/coworkers'. Long story short.....They all moved on to bigger & better jobs, & I stayed like a moron in the same place! Keep us updated!!

And Good Luck!!

It's not that the new job isnt what I am looking for, I am starting towards the bottom, which I guess is to be expected. But there are several avenues and job opportunities for me once I get my foot in the door which will lead to me to jobs I would be interested in.

Is the field you would be working in close to the field you would want to work in? Does the new company have positions in the field you want t work in? If that's the case, take it.

I was in a similar situation, I was in a job I didn't like, with people I liked in a very vacation/sick day friendly company. I was looking to get out and almost did but, I wanted something that was exactly perfect. Staying worked out for me, there was a position opened and some people (the person who posted the position and my now boss) who recommended I go for it and I've never been happier. I got more money instantly, got promoted a year later (which was long overdue in the old area) and have learned/done so much since then! It's totally different from what I did in the past and I love it.

ETA: I read your post and I would say go for it!

I remember you posting not too long ago stating how unhappy you were in your job and you were considering leaving and I know how difficult that is! I'm still looking for one in general but my point is that even if it is starting out lower and having to work your way up, if there is more opportunity and if you are that unhappy at your current position (except for the people which makes the decision more difficult) you gotta do it....otherwise you could always be wondering what if. Is there anything else that could help you decide to go or stay...i.e.-distance from house? better/worse benefits?..I know it's a tough decision but in the long run if it will be better for you...go for it girl!! Always here for ya if you need a

Quit now. I've been miserable at my job for YEARS, trust me, once it happens, it very rarely goes away. Don't waste away being at a job your miserable at.

I just quit my job last week, I told them I would stay on for four weeks to give them some extra time to get a replacement, but I feel better already, knowing that I'm moving on.

I'm scared of course, I'm taking a huge paycut to do something that I love, but I've always managed to land on my feet, as I'm sure you will as well.

Good luck!

Move on! Always keep your out for that 'perfect fit' but get some fresh experience in the interim.
