NWR: Jobs within the Courts

Some of you have asked me for more information about obtaining a job within the New York State Unified Court System. I just wanted to let some of you know that there is a test coming up. It is a keyboarding test. If you can type well over 70 WPM, then I would give it a try. This was the test that landed me the job I am in now, and it is the best thing I could have ever done for myself.

Just keep your eyes open for anything that comes up. The only tests that you can take are the ones that say 'OPEN' the Promotional ones are the ones that are jobs from within the courts already.

I work 9-5 , but the office I work in is a 'branch' of the courts. It is the Mental Hygiene Legal Service . We deal with mentally ill patients who are mistreated throughout Psych hospitals in NY. I love the people I work with, I am free to do what I want work wise. I don't have someone constantly over my shoulder asking me to do things. I guess maybe that is b/c i can work independantly and I dont need to be told what to do.


My mother also works for the Courts, she works for the Second District Court in Lindenhurst. She loves it, I believe this will be her fifth year now. The people are just great, and like I said they are just really flexibile with you. I think that everyone looks at a state job as a 'cushy' job, it definitely has its benefits, but you do need to work. They wont tolerate lazy people.

There is always room to move up, even though I am in a permanent position right now , if i was to take a test for a higher grade and pass, I could make more money and go where I want.
