NWR - Just had....

NWR - Just had....

a strip test done.... it's a test that covers the entire top half of your back to test for an allergy. They put this thing on you for 48 hours (it's VERY uncomforatble and VERY VERY itchy).

I was having problems where my eyelids were blowing up and I was sooooo itchy I can't even explain it. I was scared that I developed an allergy to MAC makeup!!!! That was my biggest fear!!!!!

So anyway.... we tested to see what I am allergic too... and Gina your going to love this!!

1 - RUBBER I'm sooo gonna be made fun of for that forever... but think more like rubber gloves, makeup sponges etc.

2 - Benzoyl Peroxide! That's what most likely made me crazy!!! I've been using proactiv too... which is why it kept happening!!! AND the worst part is... when it happened, I used MORE proactiv!!!!!

YAY now I can FINALLY have another makeup trial!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really?? Thats interesting because my sister uses proactiv all the time and she has the same thing happen. She also thinks she's allergic to her makeup so I wonder if it could be the proactiv and stuff thats doig it to her. The eye area is the worst for her. . Hm....Im going to have to tell her about this

I was scared it was my makeup because I was feeling the effects on my eyelids. It got worse and worse. Then BAM I was sooo swollen!! And red and soooooo itchy I can't even describe it other than to say I wanted to rip the flesh off my eyes!!! I then started getting itchy by my jaw line.
This would happen and then get a little better then happen again. Since about late May.

Turns out when you have an allergic reaction on your eyes like that, it can be from anything!! You are pretty much allergic to something... but it doesn't necessarily have to be something that came in contact with your eyes. It could be a metal or a ring you wore etc. So I just went to the dermatologist and he did the strip test... which they test you for about 100 different things. Foods, metals, rubber, chemicals, etc. It's NOT a fun thing by any means!!! But I did find out that benzoyl peroxide is the cause!! AND now I have to stay away from it. It's actually in a bunch of things that you don't realize too. And she couldn't even use regular peroxide on me either... they have to use alcohol from now on. Some foundations have it in them too... so now I have to check the ingredients of everything I use. You should def share that with your sister. let me know if she has any questions. She should also get tested. it does require going to the dr 3 times in one week. But it's well worth it to know what it is that's doing it and what you need to stay away from!

i swear im allergic to benzoyl peroxide too! if i use too much of those topical pimple creams, that spot on my face gets red and itchy and then all dry.

the dermatologist wouldnt check for seasonal allergies as well? you'd have to go to an allergist for that..right?

Yea. I went to an allergist a long time ago for seasonal allergies. They do the arm test... lots of needles up and down your arm. That was actually a MUCH simpler test than the strip test from the Derm.

It does say that benzoyl peroxide could cause your skin to get dry and red... as a side effect. But I don't think the itchy is a side effect. haha the itchy! sorry not in the mood to consruct sentences correctly!!

They tape these strips on your back. Basically from the bottom of your bra strap up to your shoulders and from one armpit to the other. It literally covers the entire top half of your back. The strips are these little squares... about 100 of them, each for somethind different.

Then you have to keep it on you for 48 hours. You can't get it wet (showers have been tons of fun) and you can't sweat! It's uncomfortable... the tape is super sticky and pulls at your skin. The whole thing is itchy like you can't imagine. Overall it feels like a sunburn on your back.
Then you go to get it removed. They take it off and see where you have red marks. They then put new tape on you and write codes on it. They also take a sharpie and draw a grid on your back of where each square was. Oh and BTW the tape from the original part leaves behind the worst marks ever and just doesn't come off. My shirt was sticking to it. So now that you have been all sharpied up...you still can't get it wet and can't sweat.
24 hours later you then go back again for the real reading of what you are allergic to. THey were nice enough to at this point wash my back with some special oil to remove the crap left behind from the tape and the sharpie marker part.

It was actually the biggest pain in the a$$ test ever. I'm sooo glad it's over with and sooo glad I know what the problem was.

This doctor is soo great!! I've been going to him for years (the female assistant is awesome too). He also removed a mole that looked funny... and is sending that for testing.

ALSO - I'm having the Enhanced Skin Rejuventaion laser done on my face. It takes away the effects from the sun, scars, shrinks pores, and gets rid of redness. I had my first session Tuesday. I have 2 more before the wedding. I hope it works!! it makes your skin create more colligen to replenish itself. It wasn't even that painful. And my skin feels smoother already! it's supposed to take a week to 3 weeks or so for you to see the full effects... but my skin feels smoother and it's only been 3 days.

Have you ever worn fake eyelashes? I ask because most lash glue is made out of latex....
which is in the rubber family.

Did he mention anything about that?

OMFG!!!! i TOTALLY forgot about that!!!! I don't wear them on the reg.... but on occasion i might slap one a strip! My eyes do get watery and ittitated... but usually I ignore it... and when I wear them it's because I'm out... and that means I'm drinking... so i just stop thinking about it and it stops bothering me. I never really wear them for more than a night.

AND I was DEF planning on wearing them for the wedding!!!! He said to stay away from those rubber gloves and also the gloves they use to wash dishes in... along with makeup sponges. I don't know how much he knows about fake eyelashes! But I'm pretty positive I'm going to be allergic to the glue too. Are there any alternatives I could use?

If not... I might just use the cream he gave me.... and I'll wing it! I can test it for the trial too though. this is stupid!!! But I'm soooo glad you thought of that because I totaly did not even think of it!
