I had red highlights put in my hair yesterday morning. Washing my hair today I noticed red water in the bottom of the tub. It is washing out!!!! I shampooed it two times (which I never do) and then conditioner. I didn't notice any more red in the water. I get out, wrap my towel around my body, wait two minutes and take a look at the towel. My brand new ivory towel is streaked pink across where my back was. I threw it in the washer. I have to dry it to see how much went out. Seriously, I am sure SOME of it would have washed out, but isn't it weird that I still saw some red on my towel?

Re: NWR-> Little freaked out here
it probably did wash out a little, you should have waited a day before washing your hair, never mind washing it twice, a big no-no. i would check the towel before drying it, if there is still any color on it you need to rewash it once you dry it thats it, its never coming out, good luck

That is not what the colorist said. She said that I didn't need to wash it yesterday, but I could if I wanted to. I noticed the red before I put any shampoo in at all. The shampooing twice had nothing to do with it coming out.

Yikes... your towel may be ruined. My sister is a hairdresser and does a lot of coloring and her cuticles are always stained because of the dye. Sorry to hear that!

If you got highlights they may have put a toner on it. meaning semi permanent color. You may see color in the water after a few washings. Also sometimes it may stain your pillow case so be careful.

if you put red in your hair it will run alittle bit . if your hairdresser higlited with bleach first then he or she most likyl used a toner to add the red wgich no matter if its red or any other dark color with pigment it will tend to run the first wash or so. this is because toner only coats the cuticle when permant color with perixode or bleach swells open the cuticle. i always try to remember to tell my clients not to use a white or light towel the first few days. also i would invest ina color care shampoo any volumizing or normal will strip that color out fater exspecaily reds

was it 'perm.' coloring? likely when they rinsed you out, they didn't do a good job...this isn't as noticable if you get highlights [blonde] because it rinses out 'clear.' i ruined lots of pillowcases getting my hair highlighted b/c it doesn't get rinsed out 100% that day [coloring doesn't like to let go when it's first in there] andmy pillowcases get bleached. it's more likely that the color wasn't rinsed out properly/completely than the color itself washing out.

Re: NWR-> Little freaked out here
Thank you all for your advice. I will keep note of how much washes out. I dried my hair and it is still quite a lot of red in there, so I am not so worried anymore. I also washed my towel right away and it came out fine (I literally put it in the wash as soon as I saw the dye).
