NWR - Loss of Pet

I know some people don't sympathize when a pet dies but does anyone else still hurt inside with the thought of their lost pet? My dog is gone 2 years today and my heart hurts because I miss him so much. Just had to say that.

my dog passed away 7 years ago and I think about him all the time. Me and my brothers always talk about how smart he was and how empty our house is without him. No other pet could ever replace him.

I know how you feel, pets become part of your family and losing one is the same as losing a loved one

I know what you mean. We had to put my dog down 2 months ago and it doesnt feel the same since. I feel like at certain times day it still hasn't sunk in for me or my family yet. When I would wake up in the morning and let her out, coming home she'd be waiting for me by the top of the stairs, hearing her bark to warn us that someone was at the door or in the yard...the list goes on.

We have an almost shrine set up with pictures of her, her ashes, her collar, and the rainbow bridge poem. Its helped us grieve.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I'm sorry hun. My first dog was named Sandy We got her when I was in fifth grade. I loved her so much. She got really sick and the day before we were going to take her to the vet, she died in my kitchen. In her favorite spot. I still get emotional when I think about it. (Like right now) I remember she died on march 16 1999. Every year on that day I think of her.

I totally understand where you are coming from I miss my Charlie (aka Charlie Bear) - he was the sweetest most adorable kitty EVER. We had to put him down 5 years ago and I still look at his picture everyday (taped up in my armoire ) His sister Sydney is now 15 years old - she's in good health but I'm going to be a mess when she goes

And that Rainbow Bridge poem made me CRY - but it's such a nice thought

I something was to happen to my bella, I would be so depressed I had to put one of our dogs to sleep 2 years ago and I still get distinct visions in my head of his eyes looking at me right as he went... ... So sorry for your loss

Re: NWR - Loss of Pet

I can't totally relate. I lost my dog in June and she was just 2 months shy of 18. I had her from 2nd grade up until this year and I am now 25. I miss her soooo very much, my heart breaks all the time when I think about her. My parents separated at around the time I got my dog so she was kind of mine and my sisters consolation gift. My dad was very sick for a long time and my dog was always there through it all. She was the best dog anyone could ask for. I thought she would stop eating and drinking when the end would come but it's not at all how it happened. She started having seizures and it was just awful. She had a heart murmur from when she was a puppy and it just got so bad that her heart wasn't pumping enough blood and oxygen to her brain so when she would walk she would fall over and have a seizure. This started on a saturday and we had to put her to sleep on tuesday. I didn't leave her side for a moment...I carried her everywhere I went. That vision is still so vivid and sometimes out of nowhere it will just pop in me head and I get so upset. I miss having a dog so bad but I am not ready yet. I think once I am married I will get a dog with FH. I am sure as the years pass when that day comes I will feel the way you do right now.

I read your blog...so sad. Made me cry . I have to say when I had to put my dog to sleep it was def the hardest thing and like you said I have lost people before too but nothing compares to this and a lot of people can't understand or relate to that at all.
