NWR: Lucille Roberts 'gym' VENTTTTTT!!!!!!!! long but I need help!

I have been trying for DAYS to cancel my membership to Lucille Roberts -- I stopped going months ago because I belong to a gym that is much closer to home (not to mention cleaner, with more equipment, and employees without the snotty attitude).

Well, it's been a ROYAL headache, to say the least. The Commack branch, where I signed up, claims they don't keep the membership credit card numbers on file so they have no ability to cancel my membership. They directed me to their website, which HAS NO CANCELLATION FORM!!!!!!!!!!!! It's completely bogus!!!!!! So THEN I call Commack LR back and they say, 'well you can call our customer service office' some 212 number which has the busy signal -- for 3 days straight!!!!! Finally I asked for a regional manager and they won't give out their number OR their names.

I've been reading customer complaints online for hours now and it seems that this is their little corporate trick.... they get you to sign up and there is no way to get out of the membership.

I am at a loss. Who do I contact? The Better Business Bureau? The Department of Consumer Affairs?

I went through this with them about 10 years ago. I ended up calling up my credit card company and changing the number on it - that did it. Lucille Roberts couldn't automatically bill. I then wrote a letter to the branch I joined at and sent it certified mail saying I was canceling my membership. I was never able to get through on the 212 phone number.

I didn't read the whole thing... but I had the SAME problem with lucille roberts. They basically DON'T EVER cancel memberships! EVEN with a letter from a doctor!!

You have to change your card. I used a debit card... so i closd my debit card and got a new one. You will have to do the same with your credit card. It's the only way.. at least that I've found. Otherwise they keep charging you!! AND if you put a block on them... they just adjust the amount they charge you!! They are nuts!!! Call the credit card company and have them issue you a new card with a new number... and that will put an end to LR.

Such a major pain in the arse!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh and DEFINATELY put in a complaint with BBB!!!! I ALWAYS urge people to do that when they have these issues!!!

It makes me wonder how LR is even still in business w/ such crappy business practices...seriouslt...wth?

I just had to cancel my gym membership w/ planet fitness b/c we got a treadmill at home plus a home gym w/ weights. They were VERY accomodating an had no issues at all - this is the way it should be!

Are you KIDDING? You both had to change your CC? That's so astonishingly RIDICULOUS! HOW could they still be in business with such crappy customer service? And Gina said this happened to her 10 YEARS ago and they are still doing business like this??? WT*F?

DEFINITELY report this to the BBB ... unbelievable!

Yup - it was crazy. I did file a complaint at the time with the BBB but nothing ever came of it. I think they're used to it.

I can't believe what I'm reading! Yes change your credit card right away, file a complaint with BBB, and send them a certified letter saying you are canceling your membership. Crazy! So sorry you have to deal with this shotty business!

My problem with them was in about 2003ish. So this HAS been going on forever. Just keep filing those complaints.
It is astonishing though!!! And rude and wrong! I called to cancel numerous times and send in MULTIPLE doctor letters. They said my first one wasn't good enough because of some dumb asss reason... then I submitted another with EVERYTHING they asked for in the order they asked for it and STILL wouldn't cancel it. So I closed my card. ASSSHOLES!!!!

I am just in shock that a business could continue to operate in this way without being reprimanded or more people knowing about it! Atrocious!

I just discussed with DH and he suggested the same thing -- to simply change my CC # and be done with it. I feel like calling HELP ME HOWARD lol

It's so completely aggravating that I have to change the card; means I have to change over EVERYTHING that gets put on automatically monthly.... but at least I can say SAYONARA to Lucille.

call your crtedit card and tell them whats going on----tell them that they no longer have authorization to charge your credit card----document everything!!

I joined the one here in brooklyn, and only for the 6 months before school had started...

and i had a major issue witht hem (me and two of my friends) because they continued to charge us!

I'd change your card number and file a dispute for the charges they keep filing with your credit card company.

I've had Lucille Roberts on and off for years and it never got this bad. I cancelled it three times, the first time was not a problem. 2 of those times I waited until my contract was up and I cancelled without a problem. The 3 time was a bit of a problem because I was trying to get out while still in contract without paying any penalty. That took me a few months and was irritating trying to reach them, but I sent them proff and it was cancelled. I have another membership with them now and I am hoping to cancel in December when this contract is up, so I hope it goes smooth!

I would definitly suggest the BBB...when our travel agent ripped us off when we were booking our honeymoon, thats who we went through. They were great!
