I know this isn't wedding related, but a close friend of mine was recently diagnosed with lupus... she and her family are obviously freaking out... does anyone here have any experience with this disease?
I have another friend who has had it for the last 20 years and he is doing all right, but he has a lot of problems with arthritis and rheumatism.
I just want to be able to reassure her... but I want to hear any good and bad stories.
Thank you ladies (and a few gentlemen too!)

My cousin was diagnosed with it. For the most part she is ok - sometimes when she gets too runned down she feels the effect of it and may have to to into the hospital but that is very rare. Also, I believe with that you have to stay out of the sun bc it effects it.

Re: NWR: Lupus?
My dad and older sister have it. My older sister was diagnosed several years ago. It really depends on what type. She has it in the joints. She's on and off steroids depending on how often the lupus reoccurs. My dad is fine. He hasn't had any problems in over 30 years.

Re: NWR: Lupus?
My mom has lupus. She's had it for like 20 years. She gets tired easily and her joints really hurt her a lot some times. She has trouble sleeping at night because her hips hurt her alot, but she was able to have all 7 of us kids. When she was preg. with my sister her lupus actually went into remission. It is back again and some days are bad and some days she is better. Thank goodness it hasn't spread to her organs and I pray to God it never does. FM if you want anymore info.

Re: NWR: Lupus?
Thank you everyone for your advice... the whole family seems to think it's a death sentence but I'm learning that it is a manageable thing. I don't know what kind of lupus she has, but they said she had water on the heart?? Has anyone heard of this?
We also want her to get a second opinion, I heard that it is difficult to get diagnosed.
