NWR: Meetings after 5pm!

WHY OH WHY do people feel it is okay to schedule 5pm meetings?!?!?!? Will the world end if we schedule this tomorrow, particularly since most of the office is out today???

I feel your pain, I get in earlier than most people here because of my train times so by 5pm, I'm ready to head out!!! Those meetings also are either very insignificant horribly long with lots of follow ups!

My boss works from 7:30am to whenever...plenty of meetings happen after 5 and before 8. I'm here too.

I don't know that many firms that everyone walks out the door at 5.

Having said that I hate it too...

DH's boss likes to do that. It's one of the many reasons DH is looking for a new job.

Re: NWR: Meetings after 5pm!

This crap in addition to people being looked down on for taking their sick time or vacation time or maternity leave is just another symptom of the sad state of corporate America.

If you are working 9-5, there should not be that many occasions where you're required to be there after 5. To finish things up, emergencies, etc I think are expected. But routinely scheduling meetings after hours is complete selfishness.

And people wonder why modern families are in such trouble or why people 'focus' on their careers more than their family. You don't have a choice most of the time. 'Doing what it takes' usually means putting your job ahead of everything else in your life. I understand you're getting paid for this but there should be a line drawn, shouldn't there?

I hope at least all of you get OT for these late meetings!

omg...FH and i had wanted to go out for valentine's day...even just to grab a quick cocktail at the bar of a restaurant....but decided to let his parents have the night alone (they babysit for us)...and his dad called the day before to say: 'tell them to go out if they want, i have a dinner meeting tomorrow night.'

one of his co-workers hates his wife (how sad) and there's trouble in paradise, so he purposely scheduled the meeting for 7pm on valentine's day so he wouldn't have to see her! how awful.

Re: NWR: Meetings after 5pm!

Honestly, I work in a small firm, there's more work than employees. I have clients who want to come here after they finish thier job and they would probably post 'Why do they only have hours from 9 - 5, don't they know people WORK??' So I don't mind, I work for my clients, if they want to meet after 5 or on Saturday, that's when I meet them. That being said, if I worked in a big company where I wasn't working for the client or making a difference for them, it would bother me.
