NWR: My cat has a lump on his back - a little gross....

Its relatively large, and black, and crusty...

He has a vet appt on Friday - should I be concerned? He's my baby and he's 11 - I've had him since he was nursing off his mommy....

Doesn't sound great. Does he have a 'chip' in his back? Those 'tracking'ones for if they get lost? My mom's cat had one and it got all weird and had it removed.

Just be really careful Liza - I don't know if this is true or not, but cat's can carry certain diseases that can harm a mother who is pregnant - I pray that your cat is okay, but just be careful yourself when handling her until you find out.

just no scooping or cleaning litter boxes for the next 9 months - otherwise, having a cat is ok....

Sounds like a cyst - it's common on older animals. It could be a sign that something else is going on but it may just be a gross oozing cyst.

Don't get too worried just yet. Is he still eating and drinking normally? Is he still using the litter box? Have you noticed any changes in his behavior? The Dr will ask you all these questions. Does the bump hurt or bother him? Does he scratch at it?

If you are prego get away from the litter box!

No - he has not reacted at all to it - it doesnt hurt him, and he's the same big fat lazy boy he always is.... Cuddly as usual too...

If it is crusting it might be expelling some kind of pus or other toxins. Try to get DH (I know it is not like toxemia, but it could be an infection & you don't need that mess right now) to clean the area like a wound to see if you can decipher what is going on.

But just having him around is ok, right?

I also vaccum the litter he tracks from the box when he's done - DH doesnt always remember to do it....

Is it ok to vaccum it myself?

Likely...but I'd definitely use this as an oppurtunity to MAKE him do it. To be on the safe side of course! I didn't even go in the room where our cats were...I refused.

That would be impossible - he follows me around the house!!! And sleeps on my belly every night! At least until my belly gets too big - or he sleeps right up against me or DH....

Silly Liza...I meant the cat box...the room where he poops and pees. I didn't mean the cat in general!

oops -

Welll - the box is actually in a far corner in our bedroom - its either that, or the living room or kitchen - which I refuse, and there is no room for an extra piece of paper in the girls room, so I'm hoping for the best!
