NWR: My sister got into the NY Principal Fellows Program!!

I'm so proud of my sister. I had to share this.

I know there are a lot of teachers on this site, so this might actually help some people out. Well, my sister applied for a NY Principal Fellows program. It's an intensive program that trains you to be a principal. The program pays around $70K during for the year (she said it used to be $80K but they lowered it) and then they place you in the school to be a principal. You get some type of Principal Certficate or something. In addition you have to commit to staying in NY for at least 5 years. Oh, while you are in training you no longer teach because you will be in school for the certifcate.

Hundreds of teachers from all over NYC applied, and only 23 were selected. My sister was one of them!!!! I'm soooooo happy for her. She's the BEST teacher I know. The only thing is that she is young (she turns 30 in August) and most people that got selected for the program is in their late 30's, so we thought that if she didn't get it that would be the reason. But she got it!

we have 2 principal fellows this year in our building, and one of them is young too! it's nice to see that they are looking for the BEST qualified, rather than age.. :)

Do you know what school your sister will be at in the fall?

She's not sure. Originally, the program said that they will stay in their own school, but she said that that is not sure anymore. Congrats to your fellow teachers too. My sister doesn't know anyone else who were accepted. I have to let her know about your principal fellows. Do your teachers know where they are going to be placed?
