DH and I carpool to work but I have an hour in between when I leave work and when he leaves work. So I have a lot of time to sit and read in the car.
Does anyone have a good book to recommend? I'm finding myself reading mysteries and thrillers more often now but I'm wary of authors like Nora Roberts, James Patterson and Dean Koonz who seem to churn out novels contantly. I wonder if all their books are the same, just with different characters.
I used to love reading Patricia Cornwell but the repeating storylines and situations got old.
Any book on any subject would be great, if you liked the story.

The Kite Runner and Daughter of Fortune are both really good books. They aren't the 'easy read' kind but were excellent - definitely recommend them. I also love all the books by Philipa Gregory- she writes historical fiction.

When I have time to read, I'm definitely a easy-read kind of gal. I liked the Devil Wears Prada, Good in Bed, and the DaVinci Code.

I'm a HUGE Dean Koontz fan - SOME books are a little repetitive but some are amazing. I JUST read Velocity by him and I thought it was great. I just started Cold Heart, but I don't remember who it is by - I totally love horror/mystery/thriller books.

Re: NWR: Need book recommendations
I read James Patterson and Dean Koontz all the time. Nora Roberts tends to be a little too sappy for me. My all-time favorite author is Stephen King. If you're not that into horror then I would suggest reading his Dark Tower series. It's more of an adventure series and it will really draw you in.
I second the vote for My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult...really anything that she writes is great. I also really like Carl Hiassen, he writes mystery books that also have a touch of humor in them.
I'm going through books quicker then I can buy them now so please keep the recommendations coming!

Have you noticed that in almost every book there is a heroic dog? FH and I think it's the funniest thing. Appearently the publishers were making him put a dog in each book so he stopped adding them to his more recent novels.

MY ALL TIME FAVORITE BOOK IS The Witness by Sandra Brown! I am telling you, I NEVER put that book down, I had about 5 others read it and they agreed 100 percent! Drama, suspence, romance, EVERYTHING!!!
I have read a few Nora Roberts books and liked them so I think you will 100% love this book, if you don't, I will be SHOCKED!!!!!!!!!!
If you don't get to read it now, at least add it to your list, you will not regret it!

Re: NWR: Need book recommendations
For fun light reading Sue Grafton's ABC series is really cute. (A is for Alibi, B is for Burgler etc). I have read all the way through R. I'm holding off on S until the 8 hour plan ride to Italy.

LOVED My Sister's Keeper, The Kite Runner and the Devil Wears Prada (all mentioned above). If you're into detective/murder novels, The Black Dahlia was awesome (and that's not really my genre, but I loved it). The Shopaholic series is great, Star Craving Mad was a cute book, Boy Meets Girl by Meg Cabot was cute also. The Nanny Diaries was great, Bridget Jones series is great.......
I also love the younger reader books: I'm a big Harry Potter addict, loved Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Holes is a great book......
Right now I just started The Notebook and I am starting Keeping Faith by Jodi Picoult next.
Can you tell I have a B.A. in English?

James Patterson has a love story out there called 'Suzanne's Diary to Nicholas'. Had me crying through a box of tissues if you are in that sort of mood. Absolutely LOVED the book and couldn't put it down!

Re: NWR: Need book recommendations
Thanks SO much ladies! A lot of the recommendations are things I read and liked which is even better - I know we have similar tastes!
I forgot to print this thread before I went last night so I got:
Pretty Birds by Scott Simon (plot sounds a lot like Kite Runner which I read and really liked)
The Coffin Dancer by Jeffrey Deaver
I'd love to keep this thread going with reviews on books too - the plot summary, your opinion, if you would read a book by them again.
I'm honestly surprised to see so many of you read so much like I do!
By the way, a recommendation for any of you with kids in your life who like to read... I picked up two books called 'Eragon' and 'Eldest', they are adventure books about a boy who finds a dragon egg. It's like Harry Potter meets Lord of the Rings. Very good books, I gave them to my 13 year old nephew and he loves them too. They're in post-production for the first movie due out this year sometime.
