Ok so basically I got my big toe stuck under my bathroom door and bruised my big toenail and cut the base of my nail. My mom and my cousin who is a nurse said that I will definitely loose the nail and it will probably pop off after a few weeks. To make things worse, I passed out from the sight of the blood and twisted my foot!!
Ok so now does anyone know how long it takes for a nail to grow back? I didnt go to the doctors bc I havent had time and so far what Ive been doing has helped (cleaning it with peroxide every day, sometimes 2-3 times and applying aquafor and putting a band aid on the base of the nail where it is cut)

My cousin lost her toe nail and after it fell off I think it took about 3 weeks to grow back. Feel better

ooohhh I can feel the pain...this has never happened to me so i don't have an answer...I hope your nail grows back soon.

eeeekkk! I cringed just reading that. When I was little someone rollerbladed over my finger and half my nail ended up coming off....it fell off after a few weeks, not right away b/c i remember it didn't hurt, only the injury did

i was lucky enough to lose my big toenail right at the beginning of the summer one year, and it wasn't fully back until september.

ouch! that sounds like it was painful... I know that FSIL lost her toenail last summer, and I am not sure how long it took to grow back but once it started growing back, she was able to put a fake nail on it, like you do for your fingernails. She did this b/c it was summer and her brother was getting married and she was in the wedding.

Ok first of all i have this happen lie eall the time. I know its gross, but being a runner its part of my game. Its stinks. I try hard to not let it happen & Ive been really good for a few yrs now. But once again i damaged BOTH toes. eww. I thought they were going to fall off & believe me they are bruised bad. But so far still on & the new nail is growing in already. So if i keep cutting the black & blue out & keep nail polish on Hopefully it will keep the nail on long enough to not really realize the difference. But the new nail takes a while to grow in. I would say at least 3/4 months! Just keep it clean & see what happens. As for me i purchased gel toes to slip over mine so this hopefully wont happen again! GOOD LUCK
PS> Once you do have enough ne wnail u can put an extension on. Nail salons do it all the time.

A co-worker lost her entire toenail on her big toe(and broke it New Years Eve). By June she had more than enough to silk wrap it to normal length. Her wedding was two weeks ago and it was fine. Hope you feel better!!

Hey girlie, that happened to my toe last year... The toe bed itself will still have like a soft nail there (that yhou can still paint!) and it will start to grow back within two months!

This happened to FH on Easter. He was playing football smashed his foot in his boot and his toe got infected. This was in March and his toenail is only about half grown in. I heard it takes about 8 months or so.

Thanks girls for all the advice! I guess I just have to let nature run its course and see what happens. I managed to get alot of the nail polish off (I was lucky enough to have had a pedicure done the day before) and I can see the skin under the nail now.
PS sorry if I offended anyone or made them sick with my gross story

I had half my toenail fall off at the end of June. Right now, I have a full toenail so don't worry, it grows FAST!!!

omg that is soooo painful! you might not loose your nail completly..a new one might just push the old one out...it will deff hurt for awhile! i did that to both toes...one nail fell of and it never grew back right, its soo weird, and the other was completly fine...but OMG how painful!

this is really a person to person situation... i lost a toenail a few years ago and it grew back within a month while my sister lost one once and it took like 6 months.... you can still paint the 'soft nail' skin though to hide the appearance if you want !
