NWR - Need Prayers - Another Update 5/23 11PM
Hi Ladies -
During last night's tournament I found out my 37 year old cousin is on a respirator in the hospital because he can't breathe on his own.
The details, together with some background info is as follows:
My cousin is morbidly obese (I am not exaggerating in the least when I say, think Walter Hudson). He has apparantly been 'sick' for several weeks and yesterday called his mom (my aunt who lives with us) and asked to be taken to the hospital after refusing to go on Friday when my aunt suggested it. My aunt did not give the ambulance proper info when she said he was a 'very heavy man' that needed to be taken to the hospital. Needless to say they were unprepared for what they found, and my cousin had to attempt to get down the stairs to his apartment to the ambulance without a gurney. By the time he got to the bottom of the stairs he was completely out of breath, and by the time they arrived at the hospital he was blue and unable to breathe on his own - hence the respirator. My cousin had to ride in the ambulance on the floor, and the hospital has to special order a bed big enough to hold him. He is in ICU and sedated. I have no idea what kind of treatment they can give him, if any, given his current condition.
Please send prayers that he will get the help he needs to make it through this.
Update
The MDs think he has pneumonia and another infection. He is on antibiotics, so we are playing a little bit of a waiting game. Unfotunately, he truly is unable to breathe on his own as he coughed up the tube today and was blue within 30 seconds. They have increased the sedation in the hopes of preventing this from happening again. If it does, they will have to put him on a ventilator instead.![]()
