NWR: Need surgeon recommendation...

Anyone know a general surgeon they could recommend in western nassau who can do a gallbladder surgery? I'd prefer them to have privileges at North Shore, but it's not absolutely necessary.

Thanks!

I'll ask my sister. She's a doctor at North Shore- I'll see who she can recommend. Hope everythings OK.

I don't know anyone but just want to wish you luck! I know how it feels to have gallbladder issues.

Ditto for me too. My mother went to North Shore two year ago for gall bladder surgery. I will ask her as well. I hope everything goes well.

Hi! I'm a medical device rep and I work with general surgeon's. If you want to go to North Shore the chief of laparoscopy is George DeNoto. Personally, I would go to him.

Re: NWR: Need surgeon recommendation...

DO NOT REPEAT DO NOT go to Dr. Kevin Harrison. He did my gallbladder surgery exactly one year ago today.

He is a great surgeon but has a TERRIBLE HORRIBLE bedside manner. He made my stay in the hospital (just overnight) incredibly stressful. He was so rude, arrogant, and malicious afterwards. He wouldn't even tell my mother or my fiance how the surgery went when they asked for details. (Both listed i\on Hippa forms that they were allowed to know my status) but spoke to FMIL (who recommended this doc b/c he has done so many surgeries for her family) who WAS NOT on my list.

He had my fiance kicked out of the hospital for no reason because he (the doctor) wanted him to stop asking questions. It was a nightmare. I had to talk to the head of the hospital and put in a complaint. Afterwards i heard that he is known for being a jerk. Thanks FMIL!!!!!!!!!!

I had to see him for my follow up b/c I knew another surgeon wouldn't see me and he kinda apologized without apologizing. If u need more specifics Fm me but never again. He is a great doc and I had no complications and the scars aren't bad but if I had the choice, NEVER AGAIN!

Wow, thanks so much everyone. I've been sick for a year with this gallbladder nonsense, but I didn't know what it was til last month. It's sooooo painful when it acts up, which is up to twice a week now, instead of once or twice a month when it started. I need to get it done ASAP now, I don't even care if I have to miss school.

And Melvin1297, thanks for the warning!

Re: NWR: Need surgeon recommendation...

No problem...... He was my second opinion (I only had 2 'attacks' before getting it out but sono showed multiple stones) and I heard he is great at what he does (which he is) but very rude.

If it is not life or death surgery i think i would rather have a doctor who would at least tell ME how my surgery went than one who says 'what does it matter?' I'm sorry I just had an organ removed from my body, i think i have a right to know how it went...... This was the first surgery i ever had so nonetheless it was scary in itself and then to have all the drama happen..... I have to say though FH stood up for me and was such a blessing that day..... He was my knight in shining armor!!!!!!

My sister's gallbladder surgery was done at NSUH Manhasset by:

She was very happy with the quality of care she received from him, as well as his bedside manner.

Good luck!
