NWR: need to vent

Does anyone here go to Stony Brook University? I can not wait to graduate! They are HORRIBLE!!

I didnt get my fall semester $$ until January (all Fall semester they were threatening to drop me, while they had screwed up my $ and admitted it many times)

Now I try to register for my LAST class in the summer and theres a hold on my account. Now this is REALLY strange because I always make sure everything is paid in full. I call up and.... They lowered my financial aid $ from the SPRING! The spring semester is OVER and I already used the $$ - its gone - and I took a full 12 credits! They lowered my loan amount without telling me and I am blocked from registering! So I go to call financial aide and they dont answer phones until 10!! UGH!!

I want an answer now!! The person in te bursars office is like - wow - I dont know why they would do that - it doesnt make any sense!! No kidding!!

Sorry with all this wedding planning and my job I DO NOT NEED THIS

Thanks for listening.

Yikes - I'm sorry that this is happening to you! FH went to Stony Brook for 2 years, and didn't seem to have those problems.

Hope everything gets smoothed out!

Honestly, i think it's the same at all colleges.

The people at my school are complete morons.

about 5 weeks into the semester, after everyone was all paid up, they decided to add 2 credits to one of my classes... but no one bothered to tell ANYONE in my program. So come mid-march, we all start to recieve these bill's with late fees.

We've also been trying to find out for months what kind of license we're supposed to apply for (i'm getting a license extension). We're not sure if it's initial, and add on, or graduate... or a combination of the 3, and we hear a different answer for everyone we ask.

So, in conclusion, it's not just stony brook - they're all idiots!

Unfortunately beccause they are a state school they don't think like a private school and don't consider that they have competition and are providing a service.

Could your financial aid changed because of an income or tax status change? If you made a bit more money than you thought that might be the reason for the cut.

I haven't been in school full-time in 13 years but one year my Dad (only parent) was on strike for 11 months with NY Tel. No on the books income coming in for almost a year and he srtill had a mortgafe and my brother in high school. Luckily, I qualified for a lot more aid that semester but it was a drop in the bucket compared to the bills we faced.

Good luck with everything.

Don't feel so bad it's not only the state schools. I went to Dowling and had a problem with financial aid every semester. Seemed like every time I was ready to register for classes after waiting on a huge line I'd be told that I couldn't register and I had to go to financial aid. Then I'd have to cry and beg after they'd tell me there was nothing they could do. In the end there always SOMETHING they could do. (Maybe they should start with those suggestions first instead of making me cry and thinking I have to withdraw from school )
