NWR: Nervous to tell my boss...

NWR: Nervous to tell my boss...

that I can't work 6 days a week any more! It's driving me crazyyyyyy! I signed up for a part time job with possibility of full time.. the girl I was supposed to be covering for had her baby a month early so I started FT right away.. fine.. I was told at that time that when she came back I would have the option to stay FT or go PT.. well it's been 3 months and me and my coworker don't think the girl who had her baby is ever coming back. The problem is, the original ad never said FT is 6 days and when my boss told me I'd go full time he didn't tell me then either! It was really just sprung on me.. now 3 months later, and no sight of the girl who had her baby, I'm in a 6 day a week grind, making not so great money yet doing her job and more! what's the deal!! I have to tell my boss that I didn't sign up for Saturdays.. I'm planning a wedding and I'm a full time student (yes I'm even taking summer classes 4 nights a week for 4 hours! for 2 months) and I work on the side (weekends) with FSIL doing children's parties.. problem is when I tell my boss he's going to have to get another person in here and I always here about how he doesn't want to do that. so I feel bad but I'm nervous too.. I was going to do it today but he's disappeared for the day and it's been a rough day for the office, I was hoping to tell him by the end of this month (I have a party on Saturday the 29th) that my 5 day work week would have to start.. ugh I'm just dreading it!!! anybody else ever have this issue?? I only work with my boss and ONE other person so it's very awkward :-\

I really think you should talk to your boss. Maybe ask him if he knows when the girl is coming back, because a 6-day work week is taking its toll on you, given your other commitments. Be polite yet firm, and get your point across. I'm sure your boss will be sympathetic, since you just started. It's always better to voice your work place concerns sooner rather than later. Good luck and hope this situation is resolved!

You have to talk to your boss, especially when he never told you what FT entails. You were told that you had the option to go back to PT when she came back and it's not your fault that she doesn't seem to be coming back. You have other obligations outside of work and can't work 6 days a week for the long-term. You shouldn't feel bad as this isn't any of your fault!

I'm basically in the same position and it sucks!! I started TWO YEARS AGO part time for a woman on maternity leave. This turned into usually 6 days a week, one of those days being a Sunday. We have 4 other girls, one of them refusing to alternate Sundays with me--keep in mind this same girl also gets Fridays off.
The money isn't great, but it's paying the bills. It totally isn't the stress that comes with working at my office.

I recently told my boss I need different hours, and it was totally brushed off. Looks like I have to learn to be a bit more firm.
Stand your ground though! It's not fair and totally interferes with our happiness!

ugh that's terrible!! One thing my FH and aunt keep telling me is go in there and say 'I need this to happen and this is when' so I'm going to try to stick to my guns!! I think my boss is going to offer me more $ to stay 6 days but I can't do it :( It isn't worth the stress here either!! I don't know what to do anymore I've only been here 3 months but I think it's just not for me.. I was trying to get out of waitressing but it's sooo tempting for the $$$ by the end of summer when I pick up my FT school schedule again I may be job hunting as well!!
