NWR: Neutering

I just painfully made the appt to have my Frenchie neutered next Friday. What should I expect??? I am soooo sad. I wanted to breed him but it's just not possible now so for his health I am having the operation. Sorry, I know this is dumb but hes my baby and I am nervous.

i just had charlotte fixed-- but she is a female, i don't know if that would make it different but she had a great experience-- we had to leave her overnight, they called me reguarly to give me updates on how she was doing-- she had five stitches on her belly going down in a straight line-- i picked her up the next morning and she was VERY happy to see me... i had to be careful with her for a few days-- pick her up with a lot of support so that her stitches didn't stretch out and then about 8 days later i brought her back and they removed them 1-2-3, in like two seconds-- she didn't have any pain, she didn't bite at them at all otherwise they would have put a cone on her-- she was great, licked a little b/c where they had to shave her was itching a little.... that was it

good luck, hth-- i hope it's the same for your pup!

It is such a hard decision, but it is better for both you and him in the long run.

Good luck with it.

i completely know how you feel - i couldnt take off the day we had my brutus fixed and i was a big mess. . .BUT he was fine! we took him home after a day at the vet. . . he was so swollen he looked like he didnt even have the procedure! BUT he was perfectly fine!! Actually, he wanted to jump and play so much i put his leash on him and made him lay next to me because i didnt want him to hurt himself. . .

after the first full day he was perfectly fine - it was amazing. . . especially since i cried for like the whole week before. . . the girls at the vet said he was ready to play right when they woke him up!

overall i think it is better for his health and i am so glad that i did it!

I got my lab neutered when he was 5 months old. He just would NOT stop humping me and he was a maniac.
He's four now and is perfect!

I have a frenchie too!! What I was told by a breeder is that in the case of Frenchies it is NOT recommended to breed them unless they are coming from a champion bloodline, or show quality. This is only because they come with health problems already and if the breeding is not 100% up to standards, you risk the health of the puppies and future puppies to come.

It is a RESPONSIBLE thing to do for your Frenchie, unless he is show quality and perfect champion bloodlines.

Also, when you do not neuter your puppies and don't plan to breed them, you may be risking their health. They run the risk of testicular cancer.

I know it's a rough decision, but a WISE one at least

My Peanut was 'fixed' and he's doing just fine!

He'll be fine cherryj24...my two boy dog's (English Staffordshire Bull Terriers) Gunnar (RIP) was fine he came home as if he didn't have an op. and my new little boy Zachary was a happy little camper when he went to the vet and was even more happier when my Mum picked him up...

Unfortunately my little girl Jasmin (also a Staffy) didn't cope very well she was yelping from the pain and was so swollen poor little thing...

I know what you mean how you wanted to breed him..but this is the best decision for you both...

Peanut is simply adorable. Love him. Tonka has suprisingly good health and lines and we were not going to breed without the proper procedures and examinations which is why we have decided not to. He does not hump or anything. But he does lift his leg sometimes in the house on something new, so hopefully that will stop.

Re: NWR: Neutering

i have a cavalier and i had her spayed when she was about 8 months old. i cried and cried the night before because i thought i was taking away her mommyhood. but i knew it was the best thing for her b/c she would be much healthier and happier.

i picked her up the same day from the vet and my poor baby was so uncomfortable. everytime she moved she cried so loud b/c she was stitched up. but the next day she was so much better and by the second day you wouldn't even know that she had been spayed - she was running around and jumping - back to her usual self.

don't worry - everything will go great!!!

Please let me know how it goes....we have an appointment to get our little Guinness neutered on August 14th. They say it alleviates health issues when they get older...it just pains me to think about the procedure!!!
