NWR New Years cleaning

NWR New Years cleaning

So I just put away all the stuff I got for Christmas and cleaned out my room to start 2011 right. I found that I have 57 pairs of socks, 23 sweat shirts, 19 draws stuffed with clothes to the point that they don't want to close (or open) 3 storage things filled with summer clothes under my bed, and an entire closet filled with handbags, shoes, dresses, suits, costumes, sea shells, scuba gear, a helium tank, a bin with pillows and blankets, a bin of wedding stuff, and wedding dress...

The problem isn't that I don't throw things out. I throw anything out for any reason at all, all the time. I think it's that I buy things here and there and it all just piles up.

I have 3 questions... do I have too much ****? lol Will I most likely need to downsize when me & FH move in together? How do I decide what to get rid of?

omggg Casey you sound like me!

I never used to throw anything out, figuring that I had nice clothes in good condition that I would have a place to wear again, but seriously... i never ended up wearing them!

I used moving in with FH as my opportunity to give a ton of stuff to good will. That was a year ago, now me and him will be moving again this summer and we'll both be downsizing even more.

Anything that I haven't worn in a year or so, clothes that are too big, anything that I used to wear to parties in college will all be tossed. Just think of all the people you'd be helping out by donating clothes that you just don't wear or use anymore.

the rule of thumb is if you havent worn it in the past two seasons (ie last two winters) you would toss (donate, sell etc). i have SO many clothes so you made me laugh when you thought you had too much. you can never have too much! ill downsize too soon of course when i have some free time. totally not in the mood as i try and clean up the mess i already have. cant make another!

you can always donate to LIW girls. i did that at work a few years ago and girls were ELATED to take what they could and pass on the rest.

I am the same way- I actually have a rolling closet in my basement filled with stuff that I honestly never use. Last year I donated 19 bags of clothes, shoes, handbags, etc. It's silly for me to hang onto to stuff I haven't worn in 5 years hoping that one day...... lol

Doing a LIW swap would be nice!

I generally donate to the Junior League of Long Island in Roslyn. EVERYTHING gets puts to great use- amazing organization for women and children on Long Island. :)

It definitely sounds like you have a lot! What is the condition of all of these things? You need to go through your things with a fair and critical eye and ask yourself the last time you wore it and when you will wear it again. Just think of it as making room for the new clothes!
