NWR: nightmares.........HELP (kinda long sorry)

I go through sleep patterns all the time. Each one lasts a couple of weeks. One pattern I'll sleep great whole night through, other times I'll consistently wake up at certain times through the night, and other times I have to go in between the couch and the bed throughout the night to sleep.

I know my sleeping habits can be stress related obviously, and I have a herniated disc that flared up recently and that's been giving me addition trouble.

But recently I'm in a 'funk' of a sleeping pattern where I'm having horrendous nightmares every night. They've been getting progressively worse over the past two weeks and last night I had a dream that a childhood friend passed away and I woke up at 1am hyperventilating because I was so upset. I burst into tears and couldn't stop crying. FH is dead to the world when he sleeps and was so confused as to what was going on last night so I went to the couch and tried to but something happy on tv to calm down. I fell asleep again only to return to the same dream.

I've had nightmares before this 'funk' of a sleep pattern but never like this before. I've never woken up in hysterics like that. Anyone have any explanations for me or suggestions on how to stop my nightmares?????????????

It's usually 2-3 weeks before it changes. Could be hormone/period related......it's just never been like this before....

according to internet searches ... death of any kind in a dream usually mean you're going through a change ... so don't worry ... things will be fine ...

Have you been eating dinner late at night? Or Snacks?? I've found if I eat dinner after 7pm I tend to not sleep as good and if I snack ((especially CHOCOLATE)) late, I have horrible nightmares. It never fails!

Not to be so morbid but just so you can see that I can relate, i've had dreams of my Aunt hanging herself, waking up to find my mom curled up and passed away like a little bird, I am talking HORRIBLE NIGHTMARES.

Could that be it??

Do you work out close to bedtime? I would pick up some melatonin or sleepytime tea. I have alot of nightmares and especially during high elevated stress levels I do have perscribed sleeping pills I take. It really does help.
